As a recipient of an Associates Degree Summa Cum Laude; I have and more importantly my students have experienced success within and outside of the classroom. Twenty-one out of twenty-four 4th graders under my tutelage increased MAP scores by over 20 points on average when the objective was just for 8 points. My proficiency in instructing in reading, writing, English Language Arts, and comprehension led to me being entrusted with conducting an enrichment program at my school over 1,300 students that led to me receiving 2 awards of Excellence of Service Award and Paraprofessional of the Month. My PLT scores were in the top 15% with 190 out of 200 that led to a Recognition of Excellence Certificate indicating this proficiency.

I have tutored fellow students in my undergrad and in med school. I have a good understanding of algebra, economics, chemistry, physiology and writing papers. I cannot tell you I will be the best tutor on your roster, but I have crossed paths with many students that were ready to throw in the towel and have helped them bring their average to a b level before the semester was out.
I do enjoy helping students with their problems. I have a technique of visualization. for example, which is the first example I use. I tell the student to think of a tree. in the seconds you think of a tree, you don't think of just the tree. you think of the roots, the trunk, the limbs, the branches, the leaves. then you think o ... read more

I graduated with a double major from Fairfield University where I was involved with volunteer groups that tutored middle school aged children from surrounding areas. Over the years I have also spent time as a nanny and have been in charge of homework and school projects. I am confident that my nurturing and energetic personality is the perfect combination to engage children to want to excel.
I truly enjoy working with children and would love to go back to school and obtain my Masters in education. I feel that each child has their own way of connecting to education and it's a magic moment when you, the teacher, find and help them utilize that connection. I am calm and patient, bubbly and outgoing, creative and responsible. Most importantly, I love helping people and being an individual that can make a difference.

My teaching style is extremely dependent on the individual student, and what their particular situation calls for. As someone who struggled at the beginning of their academic career myself, I am very sensitive to such situations. I take incredible joy in learning, and I believe that any student can achieve this given the right approach.

These skills were indispensable during my postgraduate work in Archaeology. A Little Bit About Me...

The majority of my formal teaching experience has come in the past four years during my graduate career, during which I taught 3 semesters of college-level introductory and cellular biology labs. Additionally, I have worked extensively with incoming graduate students, developing and teaching workshops on presentations, oral examinations, and general studying skills. I am passionate about biology and the sciences and am a firm believer in an interdisciplinary approach to learning. Having just finished my master's thesis, I have strong outlining and writing skills that are applicable to any field of research.
I am an advocate of self-discovery and prefer to ask questions of my students rather than answer them. I believe that if a student can discover the answer for themselves, rather than being told the answer, they will have a deeper and longer-lasting understanding of the mater ... read more

During college I noticed that every student absorbs information differently. I believe that in order to teach effectively, a tutor must not only understand which way a student learns best, but also provide an appropriate environment in which the student feels comfortable. I enjoy working with children of all ages and it is my goal to ensure that each child receives the best education possible. I believe a child's education is the most important factor in determining their success in life.
