Math is one of my top subjects! I can teach all HS level and under mathematics.

I have tutored fellow classmates in HS. I've taught my nieces and nephew to understand and love mathematics, as well as respect science, which is really just the real-world application of mathematics. I can explain many abstract topics in tangible ways. I love when I see that twinkle in someone's eye when something clicks and they grab onto the topic they once didn't comprehend.
Obtuse; willing to think outside of the box to get the student interested, even, excited to learn.

Tutoring should serve the student's benefit in both the short-run and long-run. In the short run, I make sure the student has his or her specific questions answered thoroughly and the specific concept learned. I also teach students to be independent thinkers so that in the long run, they are trained to apply a logical, systematic problem-solving approach to a wide variety of academic situations and have a fluent understanding of the subject they are learning. At the same time, I also aim to ensure that the tutoring has led to tangible results in of academic improvement.

People say I approach all things with total enthusiasm.

I use the heuristic style - teach a little; now you try it! The student learns best what they learn from within. At my English boarding school, that is the way we were taught, and it worked. Also, I show them different study methods to see what works for them. I have read widely on psychology. Early on, I assess a student's best learning mode - visual, aural, spatial, numerical, verbal, etc., and play to it. While being active in drama I learned how to 'read' the hearers and viewers. Many of my former students are teachers. Sometimes they recommend students to me when their students pass beyond the teacher's comfort zone. Occasionally student's stop seeing me, and months or years later I hear things like: 'Guess what, I made 100% on the final.'; 'I was the only grad. school entrant who passed the exemption test for Physical Chemistry'; 'I made the Headmaster's list for th ... read more

Experienced instructor with 99 ASVAB

I will begin by walking you through how to solve the problems. After a few sessions of that, we will then move on to simple exams taken by the student to gauge your knowledge. Finally, we will end with a practice exam to ensure that you are at the appropriate level.
I am an instructor at Virginia College and VC recently cancelled its ASVAB tutoring program. I have had many successful students go through the program, but due to funding constraints the college can no longer support the initiative. Nevertheless, I am going to continue tutoring and hope to see many students pass all of their exams! J.D. Ohio State University Moritz College of Law, 2010 B.S. Unlimited potential with help and skills to succeed.

Dr. Griffith Garland studied engineering physics as an undergraduate at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, pioneering the program by being a member of the first class to graduate with that degree. She was twice a member of Who's Who Among American College and University Students and graduated summa cum laude. She put herself through college by tutoring students, working as a teaching assistant, and becoming the training manager at the University's computer lab. She went on to study geochemistry at Washington University in St. Louis, where she researched hydrothermal systems on Mars and their implications for life. While earning her Ph.D. at Washington University, she realized that some professors had difficulty conveying material to their students. She decided to be different and completed a Master's of Arts in Teaching, specializing in mathematics and sciences. After graduate sch ... read more

Any level of Mathematics!

As a student, I was gifted in math. I went through school rarely scoring anything lower than a 95 in math courses. I routinely tested in the 99 percentile on standardized test, and as a 6th grader test showed I was already on the 11th grade level. I finished several college math courses with a 105 average. I started tutoring math in January of 2001. I have tutoring from k-12 and college students also in courses that include basic math, pre algebra, algebra, calculus, geometry, trigonometry, and SAT math. I have remained involved in math after finishing my degree in 2001 because I love mathematics. It has always been my passion, and I enjoy helping others achieve success in their courses.
First I write down the rules for students to use as a guide to solve problems. I believe the old saying "repetition is the father of learning" is very true. As a student in college, I had a profess ... read more

As a recipient of an Associates Degree Summa Cum Laude; I have and more importantly my students have experienced success within and outside of the classroom. Twenty-one out of twenty-four 4th graders under my tutelage increased MAP scores by over 20 points on average when the objective was just for 8 points. My proficiency in instructing in reading, writing, English Language Arts, and comprehension led to me being entrusted with conducting an enrichment program at my school over 1,300 students that led to me receiving 2 awards of Excellence of Service Award and Paraprofessional of the Month. My PLT scores were in the top 15% with 190 out of 200 that led to a Recognition of Excellence Certificate indicating this proficiency.

More About This Tutor...

My teaching philosophy centers on individual learning. The first priority is to determine what method is best for getting an individual to process information. The second step is then to breakdown the material and removing the myth that a traditionally challenging course is simply a "myth" and depends solely on the effort given by the student. I utilize a variety of methods (models, flash cards, simplified mechanisms, acronyms, etc) that help simplify the complex material that is presented in lecture. I truly believe that every student has the ability to pass organic chemistry and any course when appropriate attention is given, especially through proper tutoring.
As a chemistry graduate student, I have held the following roles: Senior Teaching Assistant for Undergraduate Organic Chemistry Labs, Teaching Assistant for Organic Chemistry Major's Labs, Teaching Assistant for Organic Ch ... read more

I believe all children can learn, but that all children learn differently. Having taught special education, I had a range of grade levels in my class. Very often the students would be spread out over three grade levels. Because of this, I am extremely good at tailoring my instruction to different levels and learning types. I try many different approaches to cater to different learning styles. Ultimately, I choose the method based on it's success and also how much the student enjoys it. Ultimately, the student needs to enjoy learning.
I have been a camp counselor, tutor, coach and teacher. I have taught English in Ghana, preschool in Argentina and special education in the Bronx. I have taught and worked with children of all levels, ages and backgrounds. I am very strong in writing and communication, but have also taught math up to fifth grade. A Little Bit About Me...

I am a very patient but straight foreward individual who love expressing ideas with various examples. I am hands on and a visual learner. Therefore, I make sure along with telling or giving directions each person will also get the picture with it. Each person is different with their learning abilities and I strive to help them understand through various learning styles.
I have earned my graduate certificate in Accounting and a bachelors in Business. I have always loved teaching. While attending high school, I helped assist with adult education classes at night. This allowed me to help others understand how to solve mathmatical problems by using other methods. I also worked as a substitute teacher for a few years working with K - 8th grade students.
