I am the son of a teacher and have therefore had the value of a good education as a part of my world view. Both of my parents are also avid readers and critical thinkers and instilled the virtues of scholastic practice. Hence, I embarked on a collegiate career that included 12 years studying philosophy, history, religion, Irish Studies, literature, and finally education. Near the end of this time, I felt that the best use of my talents and experience would be in the classroom helping to build a better society through the young people who cross that threshold. I try to build a relationship with my students from day one, and I like that they build also a relationship with me. I encourage full participation of the student, while adapting my presentation to different learning styles. Students are expected to take full responsibility for learning what they need to know, and for asking for help when they don't understand something. I try to find activities adapted to the specific problems and learning styles.
