I embrace a unique passion for teaching children, especially for working with students on a one-on-one basis. I thrive on connecting with each student as an individual, and enhancing their academic lives in ways they may not get in other environments. I strive to "find" every child's gift, and celebrate it. I observe the strengths and weaknesses of each student, and work with the teaching team and parents to determine steps in building on each identified success and/or challenge. My dream is to forever work with children in an effort to provide them knowledge, safety, consistency, and love.
I designed and taught a first-ever prekindergarten program at St. Anne School in Somerset, WI. I also directed and taught children's programs with the YMCA for children age birth through prekindergarten, having received the YMCA Focus Award for Excellence in Children's Programs. My teaching experience began during high school when I would help out at my church's Sunday School providing remedial services like handing out papers. Since then I have earned a bachelor's degree in finance and economics with ambitions to earn a PhD. During my undergraduate experience I tutored beginning accounting students for a couple hours a week aside from the usual work of helping classmates. Upon graduation I began looking other ways to continue teaching. About 10 months ago I began volunteering at a community center. There I partnered with another gentleman to teach English as a language to immigrants. It was so much that I decided to make this a weekly ritual. Currently, I am an Office Manager for a small construction company
As cliché as this sounds - my favorite part of teaching is the satisfaction of knowing I made a difference. I have interacted with individuals ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that every person has an optimal way in which they learn. Ideas that seem complicated can be made easy by simply changing the way in which it is presented. As a teacher it is important for me recognize how my students best learn and use that to present material. I also believe that students need to feel comfortable with their teachers. That is why I make an effort to get to know my students on a personal level. Knowing the things that are important to them helps to make a connection and can motivate them to learn.
I have always had a passion for helping others learn. In high school I tutored students from different schools in math. After graduating with two bachelor's degrees from the University of Minnesota I began working full time as a financial analyst for Target Corporation. At the same time, I started teaching part time at a learning center. In the past three ye ... read more

As a tutor, I primarily held 1 on 1 appointments several days a week. I primarily tutored in all levels of chemistry from general to biochem and I also tutored in accounting due to the introductory course that I had. My work as a supplemental instructor was by far the most rewarding. My job was to attend the Nursing Chemistry lectures and to take notes and create my own worksheets based on the material. I then conducted 2 review sessions per week to help the students master the material.
I prefer an interactive teaching style where the student determines how much they get out of it. I generally will not give a student an answer but will help them along until they can answer the question for themselves, thus making them more independent learners.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that each child has their own special style of learning in which they succeed the best at. When I tutor students I take the time to get to know each student on an individual basis and as a unique person. I make it a priority to determine their learning style and use that to implement a plan. I try and understand the reason they are having problems in their studies and then execute a plan in which they can succeed. I create study guides, review questions, and sample test questions for the students as well. In addition, a tutor can be a positive role model in student's lives and serve as a mentor and can be a person who the students can count on to answer questions.
As a student I enjoyed school and learning and therefore went on after high school to obtain a B.S in Biology. I have always enjoyed science, math, and writing and enjoy helping others in these subjects a ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have long term subbed in life science and biology. I taught Summer school in reading, math and science. I have taught under contract math, general science, biology, chemistry, physics, math, and driver education.
I teach and assess alternately. I use audiovisual aids, reading, labs, and other activities. I start with the building blocks and add inquiry or higher order thinking. I use technology when it makes sense and older methods when they make sense. Reading is still valuable.

My teaching style is one of real life applications, fun, and making it understandable. For example, when discussing slope, we can study downhill skiing or rooftops. When solving equations, I approach it from unraveling a number trick. I prefer to coach students on how to approach problems, and design which questions to ask themselves, rather than memorizing a list of techniques whenever possible. My funny and outgoing style blends well with all learning styles and personality types.
10 Years of teaching Math experience at the Junior High and Senior High level. I taught Basic Standards Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and ACT Test Prep. Through my Master's Coursework, I integrated the Cognitive Tutor which was a computer program that assisted with the thought process in problem solving. Through the 5 years that I used it, students' interest in Math had rise ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a licensed MN French teacher. I speak near-native French. I taught ELL to French children and adults in Paris for 4 years, and in the US have taught ELL and French to kids from the ages of 5-18, and also have taught adults in community education programs. I am happy to work with your student to target speaking, writing, memorizing vocabulary, understanding grammar... I offer the advantage of being a native English speaker first. I have been through the learning process myself and can often better explain it than a native French speaker can. (Imagine yourself trying to explain the present perfect tense to someone learning English!) I also speak Spanish (conversational) and am able to tutor beginning levels of Spanish.
I have a very communicative teaching style with languages, where it is important for the student to hear and speak the language as much as possible to learn ... read more
