My comments on tutoring Sociology : So much of being expert in any field is having the ability to teach my students to use effective study skills and learning strategies. This I can do for you although I excelled at many sociology classes in undergraduate and graduate school.

Throughout my successful career as a teacher and school counselor, I've instructed every level from kindergarten to college level. Teaching strategies which have worked for me in the classroom include cooperative learning groups that encourage social interaction, as well as, jigsaw groups. The use of PowerPoint presentations to illustrate the material utilizes a technology component which I find useful. Strategies for special needs students would include making sure to see if they are a visual, auditory, or sensory learner and teach to those senses. I would need to tailor my lesson plans by making the information more interactive for students who have special needs or are English language learners to make sure that they are learning the information. I would have more cooperative group activities and hands-on tasks that the students could engage in, such as a webquest activity in the computer lab. Graphic organizers are always good tools to use.

I believe that creating a structure assists in the learning process, but the structure may be different for different people.
