My approach is patient, and I delight in allowing students to make discoveries with purposeful guidance. The overarching goal is to show students that they are capable of doing great things and achieving what they may have doubted was possible for them. That is what truly gives me joy in the tutoring process; not merely instructing, but empowering students.
First and foremost, I am passionate about helping children and youth learn, overcome obstacles, and believe in themselves, whether that be academically or otherwise. Over the years, I have learned and had the opportunity to work with and encourage children and teenagers with various behavioral issues, ranging from Aspergers Syndyrome to anxiety and anger issues,so I have a great deal of patience with students whom others consider difficult to work with. Dedicated educator with 20+ years' experience K-12

One on one allows me to target desired expectations while group allows students an opportunity to work with me and have discussion among each other.
I am a former teacher with 24 years' experience in the classroom. I have taught Georgia Pre K, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades. My Master's in Reading and Literacy enabled me to elevate my Reading instruction. From personal experience with my own children, there seems to be very little differentiation or additional help in the higher grades, so I got my certification in English Language arts grades 6-12. In order to make my own classroom more rigorous, I earned my Gifted endorsement.

Friendly, experienced, creative, and happy to assist!

I received my degree in English from an excellent college in the Midwest. While there, I worked as a writing tutor for 3 years and was highly praised for my ability to help improve students' writing skills. While working as a writing tutor I underwent regular training. I also have a strong knowledge of APA/MLA style and can assist students in properly formatting their work according to APA/MLA standards.
I'm friendly and cheerful and like to have discussions with my students about their papers and their other interests. Typically, I'll read over papers, asking questions as I go and making comments as I go along. I do like to mark on papers so that changes can be more easily made. I generally try to think of new and creative ways to explain grammatical concepts and general writing concepts if I'm not being clear. Basically, my tutoring sessions involve a lot of conversation. My comments on tutoring Poetry : Yes, as mentioned before, I'm a published poet. That does not make me an expert on the subject. I know how to write a sonnet and can show you the various rhyme schemes that pertain to the more classic types of sonnets. There are so many kinds of poems to explore! Many people think free verse is easy because there is no scheme to adhere to; however, this is not the case. If you want to learn about poetry, I can give you the basics. Of course, in college I wrote about poems for a grade and was trained in finding symbolism, meter, etc. Again, these are but fundamental aspects of poetry. The difficulty lies in the fact that poems can be very esoteric.

I have extensive experience both locally and abroad teaching ESL. I taught in Korea for two years before working at a local ESL school. Within these two positions, I taught ages 5 through adult. Seven years ago, I became a certified teacher in Georgia and have been teaching ESOL in public schools since then. I have published about a dozen poems and one short story. Currently, I am working on my third novel and am looking for an agent. My forte as a teacher is discovering what a student is trying to convey in his/her writing. Para los que no hablan ingles, soy bilingue. Aunque puedo decir esto, me espanol no es perfecto.
I enjoy humor where appropriate and am very patient with students who need time to understand concepts that are new to them.
