My teaching style encourages relating reading and writing to what they are already reading, writing and listening to. If students can understand language and grammar in their own context and how it is useful then it will be better and easier to incorporate into their own writing and reading and therefore more natural. For example, while teaching ballads I introduced a Coldplay and Bob Dylan songs to students to better understand Lord Randall and other ballads of the time. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style with my own children is conversational, hands-on, and intuitive. I explore what most captures their attention, then weave in the lessons by using any available teaching aids, such as whiteboard drawings, to illustrate a point, literally.
My German parents spoke (so-called "high", or proper) German at home in NY/NJ, which came in handy after we moved overseas when I was 13. Repeating 7th grade, I learned to read and write German fluently, as well as master the local dialects and sundry colloquialisms without a lingering accent. Doing so allowed me mask my heritage, enroll in higher education, and learn a trade, culminating in a long and rewarding all-encompassing painting career abroad and in the eastern US, before settling in Texas to explore telecommunications.
