My comments on tutoring Italian: I am an experienced Italian to English translator and interpreter.
I lean towards conversational lessons which I feel allows the student to better internalize the learned language. Some fun ways of learning new language can also involve Italian cooking lessons (learning, in Italian, how to make a traditional Ragout Bolognese for example). Textbooks and exercises are mostly used as a way of introducing new language and reviewing what has been learned. I taught English to beginner and advanced adult, teenaged and child students in Italy for over 10 years where I also tutored non-Italians as they learned the language. Before that I was a snowboard instructor in Lake Tahoe where I taught children and adults of all ages and skill levels. All in all I have been teaching, one subject or another, for over 15 years.
