You can do this; you do it already by being who you are.

Open, friendly, inquiry-based. I would rather sit around and talk about a book with a student and see what they think of it and help them find meaning than just tell them what it means or go over grammar worksheets. That said, I also like grammar and its intricacies.

A Little Bit About Me...

Since I have worked students with a wide variety of learning issues; I feel that I am well prepared to assess and deliver educational materials and instruction to any student. I understand that each student has his learning style and prefers specific modalities such as: games & puzzles, logical sequential, the arts, naturalistic, etc. Although those would not be the only modalities I would use to educate my students, I feel that I must acknowledge this and respond with a portion of the lessons directed at personal interest. Also, the student's learning environment is important. My students are the recipients of a positive climate where tangible rewards/awards are delivered along with praise, emotional support and encouragement.

I graduated from Syracuse University with a dual-major in History and Social Studies Education. I have extensive knowledge in reading, writing, and grammar due to writing two thesis papers, taking several writing-intensive courses, and also creating a plethora of lesson plans. While at Syracuse I was a student-teacher for a full year in both a Suburban, 8th grade classroom and Urban, 9-11th grade classrooms. I was also a reading tutor for an at-risk 6th grade student for a semester at a Syracuse District elementary school. On campus, I tutored Foreign Graduate students on their English speaking and comprehension skills for three years. Since graduation, I have obtained my New York State Teaching Crendentials.
