I graduated from Syracuse University with a dual-major in History and Social Studies Education. I have extensive knowledge in reading, writing, and grammar due to writing two thesis papers, taking several writing-intensive courses, and also creating a plethora of lesson plans. While at Syracuse I was a student-teacher for a full year in both a Suburban, 8th grade classroom and Urban, 9-11th grade classrooms. I was also a reading tutor for an at-risk 6th grade student for a semester at a Syracuse District elementary school. A Little Bit About Me...

My approach to teaching is to provide what is needed, and sometimes that is not limited to the explicit task at hand. As an English teacher/tutor, I have often found that, rather than merely showing students how to recognize a complete sentence and use correct punctuation and grammar, the more important thing is to prove to them that they can think, and that they are intelligent. To this end, I use gentle Socratic questioning to stimulate students, loosen them up, get them interested, and increase their comfort. Often, what comes out of a student's mouth is surprisingly wonderful, and I quickly say, "That's great! Write that down!"
