My teaching style can be called old-fashioned: the best results come from patient, focused, disciplined time on task. To learn math one must work a variety of problems, and practice them diligently. My strength as a tutor is my ability to explain the algorithms in a way that students can easily grasp. This includes the vitally important requirement of why the problem is worked the way it is, not simply how.
I taught high-school math for 14 years, everything from Pre-Algebra to Calculus, in both public and private schools. I also have extensive writing experience, including for many newspapers, and am currently teaching Political Science at the Community-College level. Thus, I could tutor math, and/or any subject or assignment that required verbal and writing skills. I tutored UTK athletes in math and philosophy, and proctored Pre-Calculus at UTK as well.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love the sciences and I love children; so what better way to express that love than to teach and tutor the sciences. I believe that all children are capable of learning. We as teachers and tutors have to discover the methods and techniques that works best for the individual student. I am patient and compassionate about finding the right teaching style fit for each student. I am rewarded most when I see that light bulb light up and the students says, " I get it now". What joy that brings to my heart.
As a chemist for almost ten years at the labs in Oak Ridge, TN and 12 years of teaching experience in TN and MS, I am highly qualified to tutor chemistry. I haved earned a BS in chemistry as well as a MS in Science Education. During the last 5 years I have tutored Chemistry, Biology, Algebra I and II.
