A Little Bit About Me...

I have been tutoring as a volunteer and as a job for a combined 7 years now. I have worked in both one on one tutoring with a dyslexic student, tutoring in specialized topics, and group peer tutoring. My longest individual tutoring experience has been with Aidan, who is dyslexic and I have been working with for 4 years. We focus on taking the larger, more daunting tasks and breaking them into smaller sections. Because of his unique learning style, I have learned many creative ways to present the information at hand. I enjoy working with youth and take pride in assisting them with confidence building as well as real life applications for learning and adjusting. I realize and understand there are different learning styles and try to apply the best teaching style for the maximum benefit of the person I am assisting. My teaching pattern would be to explain the issue or subject, show the person I am assisting or tutoring how to complete it, have the person explain back to me how to complete the problem and finally to have them complete the problem alone. I just graduated from PLU with a degree in Business, a concentration in human resources, and a minor in psychology. I maintained a high GPA throughout my college experience and graduated with honors. I have very good study skills and am very organized. I took a variety of classes and excelled in writing papers and test preparation. I have never tutored children but have given children riding lessons and have helped 4-H children learn horsemanship skills. I consider myself very patient and a good teacher. As a local community college and university professor I have developed corriculum and instructed all classes in accounting including both cost accounting and financial accounting.
