Life Science is one of my top subjects!

I try to help students overcome their mental block about chemistry. Before a session begins, I like to determine a student's level of competency in the subject. Short quiz or maybe I'll ask you a few questions on the basics and then go from there.I help students learn concepts and don't really stress on memorization at first (but in organic chem memorization is important). Learning concepts helps one memorize equations and reactions better! Then, I show students how to "APPLY" those concepts to solve problems on their tests. With practice, this training helps them to get over their fear; focus on questions and solve problems like you would solve puzzles!!
Tutored friends and classmates for general chem, genetics, biochemistry, organic chemistry for tests and finals. Most students I taught were B and C grade students trying to get into med school. They received A grades on their ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been actively involved in Church youth work for the past twenty years. During that time I have mentored two to three high school students per year in algebra, chemistry, biology and physics. Basic math and science is critical to their future success in our hi-tech world and if they are willing to learn, I am willing to teach. Teaching has always been part of my professional career and I authored several technical training manuals during my years as the senior research engineer for Mobil Oil. My educational background includes a PhD in Chemical Engineering and Biomolecular Engineering from the University of Illinois.
I believe there is a major difference between teaching the student how to get a good grade and mastering the fundamental concepts that control math and science. When helping a student with Algebra, it is critical to asses their basic skills in mathematical opera ... read more

My educational background and volunteer experiences have led me to develop an extremely high respect for and understanding of educational achievement. Every student learns in their own way. I strive to find each child’s learning strengths and to focus on how I can use those assets to further their learning experience. I am patient and understanding yet diligent and reliable. My background in psychology and my personality allow me to connect with students on a more emotional and personal level as we learn together. Finally, although I have more experience with elementary and middle school students, but I would love to work with elementary- through high school-age children.

A Little Bit About Me...

Working with children is my passion! The individual differences of my students is what drives my teaching style. As a general rule, I believe in everyone having the chance to succeed based on success for them personally. Being an educator has helped me to understand the need for teamwork between teachers and their students, parents, colleagues & administration. I find that I am most comfortable when I have the opportunity to be in front of a class of students who are eager to learn and willing to work hard. Children learn by doing, so it has always been my intent to create a hands-on classroom environment. This ensures that students will have experiences to help them expand their skills in all subjects.

I have always had an interest in math and science, and I got my start tutoring in high school by helping fellow classmates and friends in these subjects. I went on to earn my BS in Mechanical Engineering from U.T. Austin. I have also spent much of my life in the world of music and began teaching beginner piano lessons several months ago. If the subject matter is analytical and involves numbers, I can certainly help you figure it out.
I enjoy working with children of all ages, but particularly excel with more mature students trying to tackle more difficult subject matter. One of my greatest strengths is helping people understand abstract, technical material by simplifying the concepts and using analogies that the student can relate to. Often times we create a barrier because something seems like it should be hard. I make it my goal to break through that barrier by reducing the ... read more

I have been teaching and tutoring students since the 1980's, both in Israel (where I completed my B.A.) and in the United States, first as a graduate student and then as an Assistant Professor of English. My background of studies includes many humanities and social sciences (English Literature, Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology, Political Science, History, English Composition), and I have extensive knowledge of science and math subjects at the high school level. I have worked with students from many backgrounds and cultures.
I am a born teacher, and I love the challenge of bringing students who are less than engaged in the learning process to becoming eager and confident learners. I am patient, though I also believe in setting goals and reaching benchmarks and deadlines. My teaching style is to do whatever works, and to get it done. I pride myself on working with my students on their level and being able to understand their personal barrier to grasping the material. I am very conscious of not imposing upon them the way it "should be done". The way it should be done is whatever way makes sense to them and as a tutor, I work hard to find this "way". I have developed the patience to work with students at their pace and to also challenge them to expand their boundaries. Ultimately, patience and persistence are what can be used to summarize my teaching style.
I have been tutoring since 2006 and have covered a broad range of subjects during my time. I approach teaching as something that takes very much patience and willingness to listen to the students problems. I believe in letting the student self discover his or her ablitiies by steering them in the right direction. I act as a guide and help further explain the ideas that are trying to be learned. I believe in a combination of teaching methods including but not limted to books, the web, models, videos, an flash cards. By practicing a little every day the skills can become second nature. There comes a point when the information clicks and the child will be able to carry this method into other areas of life.
As a graduate of sciences I have an in depth knowledge of the basic skills that are needed to continue a higher education. I have completed 140 hours in college that includes plenty of hours in biology, physics, math (thru calculus III) , and chemistry. I have also been t ... read more

While earning my BA in economics from The University of Texas, I also completed all my pre-med courses. This has provided me with a strong background in mathematics, social sciences, and natural sciences. I have always had a strong aptitude for integrating concepts from different disciplines and exploring how they relate to one another. This skill is useful when explaining new ideas to other students in terms that they can relate to.
Attitude is the biggest obstacle when trying to learn something new. I try to make the learning process as fun and interesting as possible. When a student is struggling, I believe it is vital to build their confidence towards success. It is important to not make them feel overwhelmed, but to show them how to conquer a problem step by step. I can help provide the tools that your child needs to realize his/her ability.
