Florida Writes Tutoring

The Florida Writing Assessment was implemented in grades 4, 8, and 10 as required by a law passed by the 1990 legislature. Does your student need a tutor? Beginning in 2010, each essay was scored by one rater. In previous years, two raters were used and the scores were averaged. Prior to 2010, a student could have received a half-point score, such as 4.5; whereas since 2010, no half-point scores are possible. Additionally, beginning in 2010, each student within the same grade level was required to write an essay using the same mode of writing (narrative, expository, or persuasive). Florida Writes is difficult for some students. Give your child an edge by selecting a tutor today on your terms, on your schedule, to suit your needs and within budget.

I love teaching and helping kids. Since both my parents are in education it something that I have always been around. My mother works with troubled children and she always says they just need people to give them a chance and a little extra time. I believe that all kids can achieve given the right circumstances. I’m patient and understanding with the children that I tutor and I try to relate each subject that I’m tutoring to their own special interests. I love the special felling I get when I know I helped a child succeed. As a Florida A & M University graduate with a B.S. in Biological and Agricultural System Engineering, I have extensive experience with various levels of math and science. I had a strong will to learn and a certain knack for explaining things while I was enrolled in college. Depending on the students aptitude my teaching style varies. I like to get to know how the student advances and think and considering those aspects i try to make them understand. I like my students to ask me a lot of questions for which i have a lot of patience. I also make my students think pro-actively by asking them a few questions just in order to develop their style of exploring ideas and looking more deep into the problem. I have an advanced degree in engineering and a vast tutoring and in-class teaching experience while being at University of Delaware. I have M.S in Electrical Engineering. Have taught college students engineering and maths courses that include calculus, physics, algebra. Have also tutored students for GRE, SAT, and GMAT. I could help students with their sciences lab assignments as well. Mathematics and Physics has been my bread and butter for the past 5 years

After college, I taught preschool for a year. I have always enjoyed working with children but this was my first opportunity to teach. I find that children learn better with a hands-on approach. I tried to make sure that everything I taught the children in my class was taught in an interactive, hands-on way. I allowed the children to work together and even teach each other at times. I feel it is most important to provide children with an environment that they feel comfortable and are able to reach their full potential. I also was able to go overseas and teach, which allowed me to use my teaching style in an environment that was new. I found that allowing children to be creative, and providing them with a creative learning environment, is universal in the child's success. Throughout high school and college, I have tutored various ages in a wide array of subjects. I graduated with a bachel

As early as 9th grade, I was an educator. I began to volunteer as an elementary tutor, and continued this role throughout my high school career. It was because of this experience that I attended college and majored in English with a minor in Literature & Education. In these areas I have gained many skills such as, essay writing, grammar knowledge, research and creative writing. I have tutored all subjects on the elementary level, k-12 special needs, and English. Through my educational experience thus far, I have found the method of facilitating to be a highly beneficial style of teaching. I have learned that if students take part in their learning, they will retain more information and be more confident in their abilities. These methods prove to stimulate social, emotional, physical and academic growth. I love working with children and will continue to be a positive influence in

Being a tutor allows one to reach out and find the most personal and effective way to connect and instruct a student. My exposure to the many learning styles of students has taught me the importance of first understanding the student's learning style. I also believe it is important for teachers to find motivating factors for students. Lastly, I believe it is the teacher's responsibility to make learning fun for each student. When in combination, these factors create a successful learning environment for students. I have been working with children of all ages, from diverse backgrounds, and in a variety of environments for many years. I have been a camp counselor, swim instructor, piano teacher, and religious education teacher. I currently have been substitute teaching in grades K-12. Because I believe in the success of all students regardless of present levels, my students have had significant success in all areas and have gained positive feelings and confidence in themselves as life-long learners. I love children and want to impart to them a desire to keep striving for the best. It is important to try different methods and strategies to reach the needs of each individual child. Instruction must be differentiated and made enjoyable to tap into students' creativity and interests. All Students Are Learners and Are Special! I believe that to get what you want in life, you simply need to help as many people get want they want in life. I am a firm believer in the abundance mentality, and if I can help a student overcome their barriers to learning then I am giving of my skills to help someone get to where they want to be. AS far as actual teaching styles go, I am demonstrative when necessary but always aiming to be more of a delegator to allow for a student to become a "learner" themselves. I have included descriptions of both styles below for you to understand their applications. Demonstrator or Personal Model Teachers who have a demonstrator or personal model teaching style tend to run teacher-centred classes with an emphasis on demonstration and modeling. This type of teacher acts as a role model by demonstrating skills and processes and then as a coach/guide in helping students develop and apply the

I love teaching and working with all children. I believe all children can learn, but each in different ways. I am patient, easy going, and considerate. My goal is to provide the best education possible for my students. I am a firm believer in teaching through discovery and a constructivist approach to learning inside my classroom and also with students I tutor. I believe all children can exceed thier dreams when given the appropriate materials to do so. A few good educators can make dreams a reality for any student. I strive to make a difference in all of my students' lives. As a graduate of Florida State University and a current corps member in Teach For America I am very much driven to achieve a high level of excellence in education. I've always enjoyed teaching. I taught in different contexts, worked with children and adults in classes, camps, and corporate training sessions. I taught French, dance, and worked as a tutor while preparing my degree. My ability to work hands-on and with labs makes it easier for any student to apply the acquired knowledge from theory to practice. My experience with non profit organizations made me realize that knowledge transmitted is always a plus. Anywhere in the world knowledge transmitted is a value acquired for life not only for the students but also for the teacher. I'm a professional French business analyst, and graduate student in software engineering. I've been working as a teacher and translator with Fortune 500 companies such as Coca cola, Home Depot, and IBM. I also worked as a tutor in schools such as American International University. My first goal is to establish rapport with my student. I want all of my students to know that I am approachable, friendly and knowledgeable. I have learned that students achieve when they are engaged in the learning process. My goal is to create safe, stimulating and rewarding experiences for the student who in turn learns by actively participating in the learning process. I see myself as a facilitator more so than a "teacher". I know that each child is different and has an individual learning mode. I am committed to helping each child to experience success. Accomplishment builds self esteem which leads to courage to try new and more difficult educational challenges. I enjoy seeing children reach satisfying goals. I have over 20 years of teaching experience both in the USA and abroad. I have taught elementary grades K - 6th and multicultural students as an ESOL certified teacher. M

I have over 11 years of experience providing in home tutoring to individual high school, elementary school, and middle school students as well as adults for test preparation as well as for academic subject preparation. I have also had 6 years of teaching French in public school as well as having developed my own SAT curriculum and program. I am deeply passionate about having students of all learning abilities and levels succeed and am interested in developing ways to help each student showcase his or her own individual talents. I enjoy teaching students of all ages, from elementary through adults, and in all subjects. I find an interactive, Socratic teaching style in which I encourage the student to discover the answers on their own to understand why something works the way it does is a very effective approach for me rather than just lecturing, particularly for younger learners. My style of teaching involves interesting riddles and quizzes at the beginning of each class to prepare students. I also conduct short quizzes on a regular basis to help improve students speed. I typically include illustrations and diagrams in my teaching to enhance students understanding. I am very patient with children and I make it my responsibility to help build their confidence by determining and building on their strengths and improving on their weaknesses. After my high school education, where I achieved A's in both core and elective math, I began teaching math at the elementary and high school level. I eventually broadened my scope and taught english and science, all part time. I went on to pursue my undergraduate degree and am now pursuing my MBA at Mercer University, Atlanta. In my experience as a tutor, I can definitely say that it is one of several enjoyable jobs that a college-graduate such as I can have. In my previous years volunteering as a Peer-Tutor, I certainly did an excellent job helping other students with their subjects especially in grasping the abstract concepts of Mathematics. Out of all the subjects I've tutored in the past, Mathematics seems to be the one that most students struggle with. That which I have done to facilitate student understanding and relationship with math is by providing very intelligible, concise, and simple explanations including demonstrations of the relationships amongst the concepts thus, facilitating the students' understanding of mathematical structures. I have chosen education as a career because I believe that education is perhaps the most important function performed in our culture, or for that matter, any culture
