A Little Bit About Me...

I am a higher education professional who has come to believe that the best way to impact students is to return to teaching. I have a long-standing interest in the philosophy of teaching. I am particularly impressed by "deep learning," a movement that emphasizes critical thinking and inquiry at all levels of teaching. I also believe in high expectations combined with a strong support system, and a common sense approach to the subject matter. I have come to believe that much "teaching" is nothing more than giving students the illusion that they have learned something; this is evidenced by the "cram and regurgitate" approach often taken by students. In my view, this approach is not true teaching or true learning.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have always loved teaching and tutoring. Whether it is friends, family, children, or college students, the potential to learn present in anyone has always astounded me. Through encourgment, repetition, and practicallity anyone is capable of learning under a caring teacher. Frustration is often the biggest deterent to anyone seeking education, and a tutor with kindness, understanding, and most importantly, patience is the most important factor in overcoming it.
As a graduate student at Kansas State University I have learned the value of education. Firstly, I believe all children can meet their potential when given appropriate surroundings and clear expectations of the classroom "culture" as deemed by the instructor, based on mutual respect, and unconditional acceptance of all presentations of abilities: in short, always being available to help all children find academic success.
