A Little Bit About Me...

As a parent concerned about the condition of the public school system we decided to homeschool our last two children. I began teaching them in the first grade and have continued up to, and including, the present time. My son is now a high school freshman and my daughter is in the eighth grade. During this time I helped start a homeschool cooperative. We wanted to continue homeschooling our children, but we also wanted to provide them with more choices taught by someone experienced, or having an expertise in an area. My job is not simply to impart information but to help students develop confidence in a learning style that is unique to that individual. I initially encourage students to describe their level of current understanding of the subject, then ask questions that connect subject matter ideas; every learner has some level of existing knowledge, however rudimentary. I tailor my teaching style to the student. I first evaluate where the student is by building rapport, discussing the problem he/she is having, talking to the teacher, and talking to the parents. I then begin focusing on the area where the student is having difficulties. It may be that the student requires help with homework as well as review of fundamentals. I received an honors degree from Fairborn High School and Wright State University. Education has always been very important to me.
