A Little Bit About Me...

As a homeschooler from fifth grade through high school, I learned the value of personalized instruction. My passion for learning the sciences led me to a double major in chemistry and mechanical engineering. While completing my degrees, I have been granted several opportunities to tutor in chemistry, mathematics, calculus, and the engineering sciences. In addition, I have worked closely with my instructors as a laboratory assistant in the freshman chemistry labs, and have been promoted to the position of laboratory instructor while I complete my second degree.
I enjoy working with a student until I see the "light bulb" come on. Because people are individuals, I realize that the same approach will not work with every student. As a parent of middle school students, I understand the importance of motivating students by using real world examples and providing hands-on experiences. I enjoy working one-one-one with students, learning their strengths, and using those to have fun and make meaningful progress on the curriculum. Because of my professional background, I believe in basing study on solid principles such as methodology, repetition, and use of the scientific method to help the student retain the concepts in the long term. A Little Bit About Me...

I always wanted to become a math teacher, but in order to become one in a communist regime; you had to be a member in the Romanian Communist Party. So, I obtained a BS in Mechanical Engineer (172 credit hours). I was working as a designer in Romania and had in parallel a private math and physics tutoring business. At NEIU I finished a lot of credits hours toward my second BA in Secondary Education Mathematics. Meanwhile, I found a job as a Mechanical Engineer at Mercury Products. Three years ago I have relocated with my husband's company in Dayton, Ohio. Meanwhile, I found an Estimator job at PTC and I was laid off due to the economy. So, I pursued my Alternative ATL at Antioch McGregor University and finished it this year.

Teaching has been my last career change. My prior experience has been in the field of manufacturing, maintenance engineering services and construction management. This diversified background was instrumental in equipping me to acquire a technology education certificate in three states (NY, OH, NJ) I am equipped to tutor elementary students in math, the physical sciences and language arts.
