After graduating from the Culinary Institute of America, I freelanced food styled with recipe development for clients such as Sonic, Waffle House, Omaha Steaks, Yarnell's Icecream, and Harry and David catalogs. I have been published in Southern Living Magazine and Home Mechanix Magazine, as well as food/restaurand flyers and catalogs. I was able to use my Art Degree and the basic principals of Design with basic food knowledge to produce delectable print ads and video commercials.

I began my teaching experience during college by first working as a teacher’s aide, after which I transitioned into substitute teaching, tutoring and after school care. Eventually I graduated and worked in elementary education as a teacher. I chose to continue my education and become an engineer. Since then, I have continued to volunteer through tutoring, Kiwanis, organizing a math competition for the schools within a five county region (MATHCOUNTS) and occasionally reading for afterschool programs.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have learned that I enjoy teaching when it is in a more personal setting whether one on one or small class. That is why I enjoyed post secondary classes the most. For me one of the most important aspects of teaching is the ability to build relationships with the students. It is much easier for a student to learn when he or she is comfortable and is not made to feel as if they have to compete but only do the very best that they can.

I have taught K-Post Secondary through out my teaching career. I have done a great deal of graphic design work with military contractors. However I am most happy teaching. I am trying to get back into that arena because I realize that I was meant to teach, and to help others. There is something that I like to call the WOW factor in teaching. I hold a provisional Teaching Certification from the State of Michigan; I have begun the process of transferring it to the State of Florida. A Masters degree in Education is in my near future. Prior to moving to Florida I was a football and softball coach for close to 10 years while serving the school district as a long term substitute in several capacities including Elementary and Special Education assignments.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a graduate of a private college, I have always been driven to perform at the top of my game. I have received two Bachelors degrees in both English literature and theater. Early in my collegiate career I gained a position as a teaching assistant (TA) and taught a required first year course for 3 out of my 4 years of college. In this position, I noticed that a lot of writing skills were missing from first year students that I felt that they should hav possessed and created and implemented a collegiate level writing and researching workshop that the college still uses. In addition to my TA position, I tutored nursing students in anatomy and physiology and biology classes.
