As a person I have always held my work ethic to remarkable standards. I've finished an Associate's Degree in two years flat, and am well on my way to having completed a bachelor's in only three and a half years time. My teaching style is based on the student’s learning style. Each child is different and may require different teaching methods to facilitate learning. Some children are more visual and may require more interactive exercises to learn. I do not believe in spoon-feeding information to children but taking the time to ensure that they fully grasped the concept of a problem and are able to think through a solution on their own. I will work to develop their critical thinking skills and will challenge them, so that they are not just passive learners but active participants in the cognitive process. My 20+ year teaching career began in high school when I ran an after-school tutoring program. At the University of Georgia I tutored for the chemistry and biology departments. I earned a BS in Genetics and a Masters of Education. I taught biology, physical science, ecology, and human anatomy in 2 public high schools in Georgia. I was nominated Teacher of the Year and earned the Georgia Science Teacher of Promise Award. Since then I have tutored math, science, reading, and test prep for grades 5-12 and college. What makes me a great tutor is my patience and understanding of a student in need. I believe all children are capable of success but sometimes may need a little extra help to get there. My teaching style is one of comparisons and analogies. Sometimes students just do not understand the mathematical terms. For this reason, I compare problems to something the student is familiar with, allow them to see the connection to the problem at hand and then guide them to solving the problem. Science can seem to be like a foreign language to the uninitiated, but at its essence science is simply a way of thinking about the world and asking questions.
