As a wildlife biologist for 15 years, I spent a good portion of my career giving presentations to a wide variety of audiences and educating people one-on-one about environmental issues. I have both Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees. I recently underwent a program through the Department of Higher Education to become certified to teach 7-12th grade science. I have taken math for 4 years in college. It is a subject that I very much enjoy-so much that all of my sons are also strong in mathematics. My oldest is a national merit scholar finalist, and my youngest son is captain of his high school math team. Math is fun, like a puzzle-once the student sees this fact, they begin having more fun and less fear of the subject.
I am a patient teacher, and I use many different ways of communication. I try to find the style of learning best suited to my pupil. Removing the fear of the subject seems to be the most important part. It is of the utmost importance that a student understands the separate components of a theory or process in order to comprehend the larger picture.
