Statistics is one of my top subjects!

A mix between experiential and didactic. I find it useful to probe where the students are having conceptual problems and work into communication style. Many times, students have the basic knowledge but fail to communicate it effectively. No matter one's career pathway, communication is an essential interpersonal, academic, and career tool.
I have been teaching a brick and mortar university for a year and am now engaging teach at an online university. I enjoy the challenge of learning how people learn and teaching them something about their learning. It is extremely gratifying to watch people bloom academically. My preferred method of teaching is hands-on, through real experiments. Unfortunately, experiments cannot always be done, so I use lots of illustrations and age-appropriate analogies that are easy to relate to. Many times students are convinced that science is a subject too difficult to conquer, that they must just survive it, but science is all around us. I strive for that "a-ha" moment when a student realizes that all biological and physiological processes are interrelated and that the trick to understanding science is to build on previously learned concepts. I believe that teaching solid fundamentals and relating more difficult topics to already learned information is key to helping students thoroughly understand the subject.
