A Little Bit About Me...

During high school I tutored at an elementary school during two summers for over 300 hours. From January-April 2013 I tutored the AVID program for 17.5 hours a week for all grade levels. From these experiences, I have learned how to encourage and instruct a variety of personalities and skill levels.
I would describe my teaching style as "facilitator" considering the fact that I am able to come up with questions that lead the students to finding the correct process and answers on their own.

During my experience with teaching, I found that different students need different approaches to learning. I believe that it is important to learn a student's best learning style and use that approach to teach them. I took every math course offered by a 4 year college, student taught for one 6 week session, and took some educational courses. After home educating my 4 children for 17 years, I returned to school to complete an AA degree in liberal arts and a BA degree in sociology. I now work as a math teacher working with children who range in age from 9-17 and have special needs.
