I tutored peers in high school often as well as my younger cousins, and occasionally kids at a daycare I worked at for a few years. I was able to get into college for free, as my mother is employed by the college that I was enrolled at, and so I stuck around for several years as a full time student simply for the joy of learning. I took courses in every major area, heavily focused on theater, english and science.

My comments on tutoring Drawing : I have a Fine Arts degree from the University of Maryland and have been doing some form of artwork all of my life.

A 30+ year career in the field of Graphics and Design that included a directorship managing several graphics and reproduction departments. In working for the University of Kentucky I was responsible for varied assignments such as audio and video manipulation, web design, and teaching as well as digital illustrations and CD-ROM development. In my most recent job I designed marketing pieces, packaging labels, business cards, and checked art provided by customers to ready it for printing. I am now working on a Web Design certificate from DCAD.

Experienced, creative teacher who will make learning fun.

I spent one year as a day to day substitute teacher working all over York County in various special education classrooms. My second year was spent as a long term substitute at an alternative high school for boys where I taught all subjects. My third year I started teaching Specialized Preschool and did this for many years until I retired last year. My students had many exceptionalities. I had typical students visit my classroom every week to read to my students. I did leave Lincoln Intermediate Unit #12 one year to teach in Baltimore, Maryland. I taught kindergarten-first grade to children with Autism and speech issues. I have 3 grown children of my own who I helped in school.
I have a very hands on approach because I worked with small children. I believe children learn by doing. If they are interested, you won't have behavior issues.

Individualized learning/teaching for optimal comprehension

I take a hands on material approach to learning/teaching. I feel that young students learn best when they can physically learn, such as through blocks/puzzles/interactive learning devices and other similar approaches. I try to let the student use their hands as much as I can to aid in their learning process. For older students such as my high school students or their college counterparts I use more direct audial teaching and visual teaching styles. Every person learns differently, so I cater my teaching style to each individual learner.
I started tutoring in my teens helping young children with Autism Spectrum Disorders develop English and Math skills as well as speech therapy and public speaking. I tutored my fellow students while attending Carroll Community College in English 101 and 102 as well as Creative Writing. I then moved on to being a one on one with high school students ... read more

I love children. While attending high school and college I babysat several children from four months old up to 13 years old. During My senior year of high school I was a teachers aid for A freshman level art class and would often work one on one with students who had questions or needed some extra help. I don't have any professional experience with teaching children but I would love to gain some.
I am hard working, patient and loyal. I gave the few children I have cared for and worked with a lot of wiggle room in order to express themselves. I feel like the less regulations and rules on an art assignment the more playful and creative the individual will be. you have to care about what you are doing before anyone else will.

Currently, I work as a substitute teacher, teaching math and science at a local public school district. A Little Bit About Me...

I have been a substitute teacher for the past two years covering all grade levels from pre-k three up to senior year in high school. I am a Master's Degree candidate in Elementary Education at Wilmington University. I enjoy students at every level and am amazed at what a difference a year makes in their development. Previously, I worked as a copywriter and I spent a lot of years writing and editing. I really enjoy the one-on-one or small group approach to teaching, which is why tutoring is so appealing to me.
I like to incorporate a sense of humor in my teaching - I believe when children can relax they are much more open to learning. I am also sensitive to children's different learning styles whether they are visual, auditory or kinesthetic, and tailor my approach accordingly. No two sessions are ever the same! Each student has unique needs and challenges and my job is to work "th ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have years of experience working with children in both an academic and an athletic setting. In addition to educational tutoring I have worked as a figuring skating coach/instructor, which helped me develop the tools necessary to work one on one and with groups. I have a fresh and innovative approach to learning that helps engage and incite children. Having a diverse background in the arts, as well as other disciplines, helps me relate to children with varying interests and vice versa. I believe learning is a fun and exciting experience and it is my goal to convey this through my tutoring. The key to successful teaching is to cater your approach for each child in a way that makes he/she want to learn.
In 2004 I graduated from Smith College with a double major in American Studies and Art History. While Smith is founded in the liberal arts, I chose to take courses across all discipl ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style emphasizes the differences between children, especially with regards to learning styles. Different children comprehend and understand in unique ways - while one may understand best from tactile or visual demonstrations, others learn best simply by hearing. Even within the same student, certain concepts are best understood in atypical ways. I firmly believe that as an educator, my job is to be flexible and creative in devising appropriate teaching methods for each child - what works for one will not always work for another. The most effective teaching comes from understanding this, and tailoring specific approaches to each individual student's needs.
I currently have two degrees: a B.S. in Environmental Science and a B.A. in Global Studies. In pursuing these degrees I have gained knowledge in various fields including biology, math, chemistry, global politics a ... read more

I enjoy teaching because it is very rewarding to see the light go off in a students'mind. Everyone has a different learning style and I make sure to find out what that is,while still stimulating other parts of the brain! As a language teacher I strive to keep my lessons appropriate to the real world so that my students can actually speak the language they are learning instead of just reading it!
I have been tutoring teens and adults for 6 years now for private schools in the Wilmington area through my own tutoring business. I have implemented individualized reading and writing programs for students ranging from pre-K to adult; gave one-on-one attention to special needs students in phonics, context-based reading, and fact retention; cultivated students’ understanding of grammar/punctuation, sentence/paragraph construction, and general cohesiveness in creative and academic writing; worked one-on-one with high school students on SAT critical reading and writing sections, devoting extra attention to vocabulary expansion.
I am keenly aware of how busy most students are, so my aim is for tutoring to feel like something they get to do and not something they have to do. Teaching revitalizes my own love for learning, a love I hope to impart in a gentle, patient manner. I believe in honoring the variance in learning styles, and I empower my students to engage with material in ways that feel natural to them.

I have a Bachelor of Science from one of the top five schools of Industrial Design in the US. I worked as a pprofessional designer in New York City and Baltimore Md. I have taught at the Maryland Institute College of Art and currently I am adjunct professor at The Community College of Baltimore County for three years.
I truly believe in the emphasis on art as an essential learning element for young students. Art helps these students to integrate what they have learned from other subject areas into a visual representation or expression, to think through problems and find a personal solution, path, or method that they discover on their own. It might seem simple, but through art, I would like students to consider new ways of doing things, new ways of saying something, new ways of expressing themselves. Take what you think you know about a subject, person or theme, turn it around ... read more
