Music lessons in the natural method with Ukulele

I teach in a laid-back, natural method. We like to have fun! I respect all talented, dedicated & accomplished classical musicians and anyone who reads musical notation. I don't teach sheet music or following musical pieces along as if you were reading instructions. I prefer to get blossoming musicians in touch with the natural way to enjoy music and express themselves. We accomplish this with playing by ear, utilizing musical properties and phrases that work together well, and making a connection with the music and its meaning. A Little Bit About Me...

While in college, I spent my time home from school substitute teaching through Frederick County Public Schools. After graduation from American University, I continued to substitute and in the fall of 2005 I took a part-time position at a middle school, teaching Theatre Arts and Music Performance Lab. While teaching, I began my teaching certification through the Maryland State Department of Education, where I completed a course called Inclusion: Making it Happen. I also taught dance at Dance Unlimited and Elite Feet Dance studios in addition to working at numerous children's theatre camps throughout Maryland and West Virginia.

I believe that the best way to make sure somebody remembers something is to have them discover it for themselves. My teaching style is centered around this. I enjoy asking guiding questions to point a student in the right direction, and filling in the blanks afterward.
