Special Tutor/Teacher

I try to teach by the style that seems to be the best for that student to learn. I am very patient and realize that each student takes a varied amount of time to grasp material. Hands on materials and fun activities are great ways to keep the student engaged.

Dyslexia is one of my top subjects! I am certified teacher at the Master's level with certifications for early childhood, elementary, special education, ESL and reading specialist. I am trained in Orton Gillingham and the Wilson program.

I use a multi-sensory approach when teaching to meet the student's needs. I also incorporate lots of games and personal experience to make it fun and engaging.
I graduated from Arcadia University with a Bachelor's degree in education from Arcadia University in 2014. I then went on to earn my Master's degree in education a year later from Arcadia University. Since that time, I was a classroom teacher for special needs students in an elementary setting and the lead EC teacher at my school and served on our student support team and school improvement team before becoming a district educational diagnostician. I have been tutoring since high school and have worked with students from preschool to college. I have been trained in the Wilson and Orton Gillingham reading approaches as well as mindfulness for children and teens.

Education focused on achievement.

I am a teacher and tutor. A good deal of my experience has been teaching Reading and Language Arts. I also have a degree in Learning Disabilities. I have taught general education as well as special education. I have taught at all levels. My most recent experience is in a primary class. I have also tutored secondary and college level students in Writing Skills and Reading.
The individual needs of the student will direct my teaching strategies. I make every effort to be student centered. For example, "what is the best way to help this person understand reading comprehension?". Students have varying apptitudes and well as strengths and sometimes, weaknesses. I develop a strategy to help my students learn by exploring education through their own apptitudes and strengths. Doing this results in learning as well as reducing weaknesses.

I have wanted to help others learn for as long as I can remember; even as early as the fourth grade I was helping my classmates with assignments. I have always loved learning and helping others to learn. I earned a BS in Psychology in college so I would have a better understanding of how the mind works and learns. I never turned a person down; if I did not know much about a subject I would research it. I even took a course that would teach me how to assist individuals with essays and research papers. I recently relocated to the Huntersville area. I recently graduated from UNCW with a degreee in Psychology with a focus on children. Since middle school, working with children has been my passion. I realized my dream after some of my cousins came over to America from the war torn country of Liberia and were having a very hard time adjusting. I was accepted to UNC Chapel Hill's Master's Program for Rehabilitation but declined after fearing it would take me down the path of working with the elderly instead of working with children.
