I currently work in a PreK-12 School setting as a Certified School Library Media Specialist. I am responsible for teaching Prek-6th grade library/research lessons. When I am not teaching I am monitoring 7-12 students who are utilizing the library media cnter. I manage two library spaces, am the primary purchaser for books, technologies, and databases, and work closely with the administration team to meet and exceed curricular goals. Previously I worked in a K-6 setting with similar responsibilities. While working with on my Masters degree I substitute taught in several of the area school districts. My teaching style is very well rounded. Meaning I utilize a vast array of tools, high tech to low tech. From smart boards (promethean), webquests via the internet, to old fashioned poster board in a cooperative learning atmosphere. At Harrisburg in the urban environment, I learned to utilize many styles due to low resources and a diverse student population where I had to appeal to a diverse group of learners. After receiving a degree in Sociology from a New York State University, I went on to earn a provisional teaching certificate in Biology. I have twenty-one graduate hours in Reading and eleven graduate hours in Early Childhood Education. My previous work experience had me working with families where one adult was in need of a GED. I have tutored students from elementary through high school in every subject (except Foreign Languages) for over ten years. A Little Bit About Me...

All children are diverse learners. All children learn differently, and no two are alike. Good instruction includes fitting the lesson according to the learner. Tutoring a child who is a book learner is different than a child who needs visuals or manipulatives. Some children need academics tied into real life experiences. My teaching style includes designing instruction according to individual student needs in order to enhance their learning. My years of teaching have been greatly varied—traditional/ non-traditional, in the States /overseas, regular/special needs students, children/adults, and with a great variety of nationalities (Swedish, British, Slovak, Serbian, Jordanian, Russian, Dutch, South African, etc.). I have homeschooled our five children. I have provided English conversation classes for children. Also, I founded and directed an English educational resource center for expatriate children, like an international school, but smaller scale and with more individualized instruction.
