I have homeschooled our five children. I have provided English conversation classes for children. Also, I founded and directed an English educational resource center for expatriate children, like an international school, but smaller scale and with more individualized instruction. Teaching young people and seeing them succeed is such a reward. Many students find the conventional school setting difficult and work with greater success in a one on one setting. Getting to know the student and his or her learning style along with some background enables a tutor to create an atmosphere where the student will be most successful. The student can feel comfortable asking questions, which is not always the case in a traditional classroom. My goal as a tutor is to have a student comfortable and successful!

I believe that all children can be successful learners. The key is to find the method of teaching that works best for each child. Some children can read something and understand the information perfectly. Others need to have the information read to them and then explained in greater detail. Still others learn best when they are allowed to have hands-on experiences or when the information to be learned is equated to his or her own life. It is important to find the style or styles that work best for each child and then tailor the learning to that style-the child’s learning style is the most important factor. A Little Bit About Me...

I am certified in both elementary and special education through SUNY Geneseo. I have been substitute teaching for the past three years while completing my Masters Degree through Western Governors University. I have tutored three students in reading, writing and mathematics. All three students had learning disabilities and all made excellent progress while working with me. Last summer I worked for a group daycare and initiated group tutoring sessions for all students who would be going to school in the fall. I worked with kindergarten, first and second graders and differentiated instruction for the students to help prepare them for the coming year.
