My comments on tutoring Statistics : Especially experienced explaining basic statistical concepts to students who typically struggle with math.

Patient and encouraging. I usually like to summarize the material and give a bit of context and work through an example. Then, I like to have the student work out an example independently and we go over it. While going over it, I asked them to explain the steps and their thought process. Generally, I like to ask the student(s) lots of questions so that I can see that they know what they're doing and why they're doing it.
During undergraduate, I tutored several of my classmates in different chemistry and math courses. Additionally, I've had the pleasure of being a teaching assistant for 2 years for undergraduate statistics. As a TA, I was responsible for summarizing new material, reviewing the concepts, and going over the homework for groups of 20 to 30 students. The educators in VN were very tough. Call it tough love. While I learned a great deal, I always felt "abused" by the teachers (nuns). Many times during the school week, I came home with red markings on my face or hands. I take a softer approach. If you get a child excited, he/she will learn best!
