A Little Bit About Me...

I have twenty-five years experience teaching at the college level. My areas of expertise are Sociology, Criminology, and Legal Studies but my favorite part of teaching is working one-on-one with students on research and writing projects. In recognition of my expertise in this area, my university awarded me the Provost’s Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Research Mentoring in 2007. I have published and reviewed for academia journals and have experience writing and reviewing grant applications. A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy helping students work through tough problems by allowing them to make mistakes and then rework the problem a couple of times the correct way. Since this is my area of expertise, I am able to come up with examples on the fly that will target the areas most troublesome to the student. Mathematics is a field that requires repetition but making that repetition as interesting as possible is a fun challenge. I do not wish to be a teacher by profession but I do enjoy helping individuals or small groups with science and mathematics.
I have formally tutored with Madison College on two occasions lasting a year. I was also Tutoring throughout my time at Edgewood on a drop in basis with any students that came to the math department and could not reach a professor. There is no better moment that when a child becomes engaged and starts understanding and asking questions. Once a child starts asking questions you know that they are excited about it and want to learn. When teaching my goal is always to get children excited about what they are doing and then proceed from there. All children have different strengths and I try to work from those strengths.
I recently graduated with my Bachelors of Science in Biomedical Engineering. I have taken extensive courses in math and science. Math and science are fields that I love and excel at.
