I am a very patient teacher. If it seems someone is 'just not getting it' I will try a different approach. People learn at different levels, and what works for one does not always work for another; therefore,finding the way for each individual student is the key. I have also found that most people learn a task by 'hands on' learning, not listening to how it should be done. In this situation, giving someone the tools to do the work themselves gives them the confidence to do it, and feel good about conquering the challenge.

I believe every child can learn anything, it is just a matter of understanding how each child's brain functions. Some students learn by example and repetition, while some need hands-on activities in order to process the main concept and remember it. I do believe that every student needs plenty of practice in order to maintain the knowledge of each lesson. I believe this practice should include guided practice as well as independent practice so that I can understand each student's thought process. I prefer tutoring rather than a classroom setting so that I can better accommodate each student's needs. Earlier on in my college education, my plan was to apply to Law School at MU, the university I was attending at that time. To apply, one was to have a Bachelor's degree in the area of their choice. I have always been fascinated by people . . . the way they think, how they learn, why they do what they do, etc., so I chose to major in psychology. Toward the end of my Bachelor's degree, my husband and I started a family, and the more and more I thought about things, the stronger I felt about choosing a career that was more conducive to family life . . . so I changed career paths and chose to become an elementary teacher.
