A Little Bit About Me...

I just graduated from PLU with a degree in Business, a concentration in human resources, and a minor in psychology. I maintained a high GPA throughout my college experience and graduated with honors. I have very good study skills and am very organized. I took a variety of classes and excelled in writing papers and test preparation. I have never tutored children but have given children riding lessons and have helped 4-H children learn horsemanship skills. I consider myself very patient and a good teacher. When they don't understand something I work hard to try to explain it in a different way. I have also corrected and given feedback on fellow college student’s papers and assignments.

Interactive--listening to and learning from student to determine "where they're at". Then, posing questions to enable them to find their own beginning/solution/answers. If session doesn't find a promising beginning, start from a base and progress with them. Interaction prevents or indicates "going too fast" or overwhelming them--"the eyes" are engaged or indicate "shut-down". Making the math or education "mean something" provides a reason for learning or further developing the concepts. Encouragement and sincere compliments are very important. Sharing your own struggles or an "ah-huh" moment helps ease the role differences toward a comfortable, encouraging, learning relationship.
