My comments on tutoring Basic Learning Skills : Basic learning skills are necessary to build a foundation in later learning. Learning to read, write, and speak are pertinent for success in learning.

I teach with a hands-on style. I incorporate various strategies based on the student's needs such as kinesthetic, visual, auditory, and a combination if needed. I observe and I assess student's strengths and weaknesses. Based on the information and results, I determine the correct strategy to use to help a student.
Over 16 years, I have taught various subjects for students with hearing impairments. I also have experience in teaching students with multiple disabilities as well. I have had experience in teaching an after school program with students who needed assistance in learning. In addition, I have taught American Sign Language classes to parents. I have experience in teaching students, ages 7-21.

While I like students to know that I am an expert in my subject field, I also want them to take the opportunity to learn critical thinking skills. I want them to gather information, ask questions and break things down to a level that makes sense for them. With that being said, I believe I have a teaching style that resembles that of a facilitator. The overall challenge is to help students reach their capacity for independent action, initiative, and responsibility. The students I've mentored and tutored have worked with me in a more consultative approach where they can see me as someone to provide support and encouragement -- not always answers.
I achieved my M.Ed. from American Intercontinental University where I held a 4.0 GPA. The classroom and hands-on experience gave me the knowledge and experience needed to face the demands of educators today. During the last four y ... read more

My teaching style could not be better described than to quote Ignacio Estrada, “If a child can't learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn.” I believe we are all granted certain talents and gifts and sometimes we just need that little bit of guidance to reach deep down and find how we can be our very best. Let me help your child reach his or her full potential. In addition to being a patient and caring tutor, I teach with empathy. I appreciate how children can feel a loss of confidence in themselves, especially when their peers are excelling at a time they are not. In a positive and nurturing environment, I will help your child build confidence in his or her abilities, aligning the path for academic achievement.

Based on my past teaching experiences, I have learned that in order to motivate students to learn, it’s imperative to make connections between the curriculum and their prior experiences and interests. I believe that it is unrealistic to expect students to learn at the same rate and have identical learning styles, so teachers must differentiate their instruction to account for all types of learning abilities, levels, interests, and talents. For instance, teachers should be able and willing to plan lessons and/or assessments that allow students to utilize their own individual and unique intelligences, such as perhaps music or art.
I graduated from Illinois State University in 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology, and a friend recommended me for an assistant job within a special education cooperative. I accepted the position and continued doing this for five years. The ti ... read more
