A Little Bit About Me...

I was in a program called "Study Buddies" all four years at high school. I would devote a couple afternoons a week tutoring middle school students (and eventually high school students). During this time I would help them study for tests, complete assigned work, or help clarify any material that the student didn't understand. Also, I helped these students develop their writing and grammar skills. Starting my junior and senior year of high school, I began "one on one" tutoring with selected individuals. Study buddies was a program where several students would show up and the helpers would assist accordingly, but when I began tutoring I specifically met with them at assigned times. I tutored mainly in math, but I also helped with all of their homework and helped them study for tests. I found it to be an excellent learning experience for me as well as the student. I love to learn, and when sharing that knowledge, my ultimate goal is to leave the student with a spark that will hopefully motivate them to pursue the subject above and beyond the lesson. Motivation, learning style, and goal structure are components I consider when setting up a lesson. As a computer programmer, I tend to be task oriented. I like to break a project into smaller chunks with clear boundaries. I believe that having the student participate in defining these goals helps them focus, keeps them from getting overwhelmed, and gives them a way to measure their own success. In addition, the teacher needs to ensure the student is motivated to learn by providing materials and methods that are of interest to the student, and match his/her learning style.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a very adaptable teacher--I can easily pick up on a student's needs and abilities, and work to their strengths in that way. I enjoy not only helping them learn, but also their backstory and considering how it affects their learning style. I also have an innate love of learning, and feel that it's a great gift to help someone realize their own potential.
During my undergrad studies at UWRF, I was sponsored to become a tutor in the Writing Center on campus. There was a prerequisite practicum, but it was very hands-on learning. I worked with students from a variety of backgrounds (ESL, freshman comp, MS candidates, etc). At Metro State I participated in a semester program teaching English in Puerto Rico, for which I received the ESL certification. I also TA'd for Writing and Designing for the Web.

More About This Tutor...

My experience tutoring Math and Science is extensive. I started formally tutoring Chemistry in 1996 as a chemistry tutor. Throughout my Bachelor's and Master's degrees I tutored students independently. This helped me develop a wider range of approaches with which to help different students learn. I am well versed in many different mathematical disciplines. I am familiar with everything from arithmetic to graduate level mathematics and statistics. I am also familiar with many areas in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics at the freshman level.
My teaching approach varies depending on the student. With youth, I am both patient and focused. I am also considerate and easy going. As the student gets older, I let them dictate what they would like to learn and the intensity they would like to learn it at. I respect students of all ages and I am always attentive to their needs.

A Little Bit About Me...

As an aerospace engineering student at Embry-Riddle, mathematics comes quite easily to me. I enjoy solving and creating mathematical problems. At Embry-Riddle I quickly became known as the "go to" guy for all math related questions. Within the first two weeks of the first semester I was leading a Calculus 2 study group and retained my position as such until the end of the semester. While the study group dwindled in size for Calculus 3 I did still lead the group.
I enjoy teaching mathematics and biology. If the student is willing to learn in some fashion I can help him or her. I tend to teach by examples for mathematics and for biology I teach in a lecture style, answering questions in-depth when necessary. In both fields I can give in-depth explanations for concepts. Specifically in mathematics, deriving proofs is especially easy for me and could be useful for those student ... read more

While in college I worked a number of years as an after school program classroom lead for two different school districts in the twin cities area. Additionally, during my years of Post College I have worked directly as a youth instructor in a number of scenarios. I have experience teaching Genetics, Horse Anatomy and Physiology, Equine Nutrition, and Natural and Biological Sciences.
I have a natural talent for being a leader/teacher and have been complimented on my ability to reach out to youth. I like to teach through “hands on” approach, practice and problem solving. I love to see the children’s progress through time and their feeling of confidence when they have mastered a skill your teaching.

I very much enjoy education and working with children/young adults. Teaching is something that can and should be performed in different ways depending on the student. Everybody has their own unique learning style. I believe in visual learning and working through example problems to help develop better understanding. I feel that through a hands on approach students can and will meet their potential.
When in undergraduate school for physics I acted as a tutor for portions of my junior and senior years. I tutored students in general physics I & II, as well as calculus I & II. I would work with a particular student on a one on one basis to address specific questions that they might have on the subject matter.

I love to learn and help others do the same, whether it is helping a high school dropout pursue and finish their GED or teaching and mentoring children and young adults in volunteer settings; I love to teach, but more importantly, I enjoy trying to find the best way or creative ways to help others learn, understand and grow as people. My teaching style would be described by others as friendly, firm and yet very creative but thorough.
As a graduate of the University of Saint Thomas, I have an English degree and am a few classes/credits short of a Business Administration degree. At Bethel University I pursued a Secondary Education teaching certificate. Seeing an opportunity to teach high school english in Texas, I pursued teaching and volunteer teaching while living and working in Texas. A Little Bit About Me...

I am a life-long learner and have two master's degrees, one from Harvard. Because of my deep interest in how children learn, I also have a degree in child development. As a teacher's aide in a public school kindergarten, I spent five years tutoring children in reading, writing, math, science, and art. I also enjoy working with English language learners. I spent one year teaching early literacy skills to refugee children, and three years teaching English to Japanese children. Both as a student and as a financial analyst I have learned how to conduct research and write concise, informative reports and essays.
I enjoy teaching, working with, and learning with children. Children have different learning styles and temperaments and I try to adapt my teaching to these differences. I am creative, patient, and enthusiastic. I firmly believe that children can learn more when there is s ... read more
