For me, teaching isn't about pounding new material into their head, it's about helping them understand the material they're given and actually having fun learning. That's why my teaching style is all about fun and retention. I'm currently an education major at Colorado State University, and while music is my emphasis, I was always very studious in school and am well-versed in other subjects. I have always sought to lead rather than force something upon the student by rote. Most important is to present the information in a way that is both interesting and memorable. It is my experience that people remember things better when they truly understand the process, and have reason to listen to the explanation. My experience in tutoring began in high school when I volunteered for my local library, in a program aimed towards improving students’ reading ability. Having had considerable difficulty learning to read myself, I felt it was important that I attempt to pass this on to others. When I entered Knox College I was focusing on English, and ended up helping my fellow students with writing and editing their papers.

I have always been a believer in giving students a foundation from which to learn and grow. I enjoy teaching students basic skills that can be applied to many different subject areas. For example, I think things like test-taking skills, communication skills, and problem-solving skills are all things that can transfer between subject areas and even outside of the classroom. I just finished at the University of Northern Colorado with a degree in Biology and Secondary education. I can teach 7-12th grade all science areas and really enjoy all levels of science.
