IMPROVE READING AND WRITING SCORES IN CLASS AND ON THE ACT.

I have been an AP Literature and Composition teacher as well as Twelfth grade Language Arts instructor for over 16 years. I am acutely aware of the needs of students as it relates to mastering reading and writing skills. I have also taught an ACT Prep course for the past 5 years after extensive training at workshops and conferences. I know the importance of identifying weaknesses in reading, writing, and on standardized tests such as the ACT and directing my instruction to those weaknesses. I have worked with children throughout college, both in academic and nonacademic settings. I worked on a family literacy program at the Mississippi Childrens Museum, called Planting the Seeds to Read, which entailed teaching children literacy skills and coaching parents in literacy strategies for home. I teach at Canton Young Filmmakers Workshops every summer.

I have served as a substitute teacher in Hayward, CA for 1 1/2 years. I worked as a tutor for Learning & Loving It in San Jose, CA for 3 years. I served as a tutor and teacher of adult education in Loganville, GA for 1 year. I am currently on the substitute teacher roster for the Vicksburg School District, and I have been so for two years.
I first introduce myself and get to know a little about the student I am tutoring.
