I'm currently a student at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota and I've covered many subjects in my 15 years of education. I've learned many of them well enough to teach them to my younger sister, who has ensured I review every subject two years after I complete it, rather than forget it forever. As far as teaching style, I think it is important to listen to what the student really needs and adapt your teaching style based on their needs. I've learned with math especially, that you need to work a lot of different problems. However, I usually like to have the student take me through the steps as best they can and then I step in to help or possible show a simpler way to solve the problem. Tutoring is not about your own agenda, it is about the student and what the tutor needs to do help them understand. That is one of the great challenges about tutoring, it will always keep you on your toes and with every student you take away a new learning experience.
