I am a senior in the Education program at Appalachian State University. As an Elementary Education major, I have worked closely with children from many age levels. I have participated in an after-school tutor/mentor program at Appalachian State in 2008. In 2009, I completed two internships while in the Education Program. One working with 2nd grade students and the other with 5th grade students. I have also taken many courses to understand context and teaching strategies in all subject areas.
I believe that children must be engaged in the subject matter before successful learning takes place. Finding fun, interesting, and personal ways for the child to connect to the topic will truly allow them a chance to learn and retain information. I love finding different ways for individual learners to understand what they are being taught.

As the Office Assistant at Exousia Rehabilitation Services, I also performed many personal assistant tasks for the owner, including tutoring her two high school students at least three nights a week. As the Administrative Assistant and nRg Program Coordinator at Heart Reach Ministries (a non-profit youth center), I worked with at-risk teenagers during both summers I was there. This involved leading group discussions as well as educational lesson plans at least twice a week throughout the summer. I took Spanish all four years of high school, as well as the first two years of college so I have a solid understanding of grammar, conversation style, and Spanish culture and am capable of teaching an intermediate level of Spanish.
