I believe that children must be engaged in the subject matter before successful learning takes place. Finding fun, interesting, and personal ways for the child to connect to the topic will truly allow them a chance to learn and retain information. I love finding different ways for individual learners to understand what they are being taught.
I am a senior in the Education program at Appalachian State University. As an Elementary Education major, I have worked closely with children from many age levels. I have participated in an after-school tutor/mentor program at Appalachian State in 2008. In 2009, I completed two internships while in the Education Program. One working with 2nd grade students and the other with 5th grade students. I have also taken many courses to understand context and teaching strategies in all subject areas.

A Little Bit About Me...

Through my previous experience my teaching style is focused on a strengths prospective. Factors such as motivation, encouraging discussion, critical thinking, challenging perception, and providing time to process the problem and initialize forming a conclusion on their own is imperative! My style would include lecture, reading, audiovisual, and learning by practice!
