REAL LEARNING IS FUN, RISKY, DANGEROUS...BUT NEVER BORING :)

My experience spans both the ivory tower and the world of business and industry. I have observed that "TEACHING" is often associated with the ideas of "PRESENTATION" and "ACADEMIC ENTERTAINMENT". Honestly, for many students it is comforting, soothing, and safe to sit in a chair and listen to an "ADULT" sing to them in the language of Calculus, Organic Chemistry, Java, etc. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THAT APPROACH. Nevertheless, I too have sung to many students in the language of General Chemistry at the Junior College Level. A Little Bit About Me...

I have been in the Information Technology industry for over thirty years working for such companies as American Airlines, Sheraton Hotels, Williams, Harsco, Dollar-Thrifty and Microsoft. I have a BS in Computer Science and have worked in both hardware support and software development. I currently work as an independent consultant providing my customers with the technological skills necessary for the successful completion of their software development projects. Fifteen years ago I began teaching computer courses as an adjunct for Tulsa Community College (TCC). I create and deliver custom business training in the area of application development. I am very adaptive to students learning style. I usually spend the first ten minutes of our first meeting figuring out what the student is struggling with and how to best meet their needs. I try to teach students more how to think analytical more so then just solving problems because it is more beneficial to the student. I feel that if I can teach the student how to read theorems, understand concepts, then problems just become easy at that point.
I started tutoring part time in 2004 and have continued this throughout college. I worked as a math tutor for tulsa community college part time during the summer. I have earned over 190 hours of college credit, I have two degrees, and I am only 15 hours away from a chemical engineering degree.
