A Little Bit About Me...

I have taught mathematics in grades 3 through college. I especially enjoy working with high school students and college algebra and trigonometry students. Since my retirement from college teaching I have been tutoring at Sylvan Learning, teaching some grade school math, algebra, geometry and ACT prep.
I especially enjoy working one-on-one with students because I am able to concentrate on his/her weaknesses. I like to use manipulatives and concrete examples whenever possible. After introducing a concept I work out examples with the student, then have him/her work through several examples while I watch and, finally, have the student work independently on a set of problems. If there are still errors I try to approach the concept from a different perspective and then repeat the process.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a kinesthetic learner, so I enjoy teaching in a very approachable, hands on kind of way. I realize every student is not that kind of learner, however, yet I try to make learning the subject at hand enjoyable and something that will be remembered not just for a test, but for life, in the student.
I have over 200 hours of classroom observation and teaching time. I have been an afterschool supervisor/leader at an inner city elementary school. I have also subsitute taught in a public school classroom. I was also the president of the TRIPLE E elementary education club at my college. I was also a leader at AWANA (a children's program).
