I am a recent graduate from the University of Dubuque where I received my Bachelor of Science in k-12 Physical Education and Instructional Strategist 5-12 (Special Education). I also hold a coaching license. As a special educator I am constantly adapting and accommodating to the many needs to a variety of students and enjoy doing so. A Little Bit About Me...

I was an elementary teacher, I am endorsed in Art, General Science, Home Economics, Language Arts and Social Science at the middle school level. During my full time teaching career, taught T.I.M.S.(integrated math/science) and conducted hands on science labs. I organized the Science Fair, mentored new teachers, directed the after school program in reading, math and hands on learning acitvities.

I enjoy tutoring and working with children of all ages. Two concepts I consider most important are learning the basics and setting small goals towards the ultimate goal which is set with the student. I have taught mathematics in grades 3 through college. I especially enjoy working with high school students and college algebra and trigonometry students. Since my retirement from college teaching I have been tutoring at Sylvan Learning, teaching some grade school math, algebra, geometry and ACT prep.
I especially enjoy working one-on-one with students because I am able to concentrate on his/her weaknesses. I like to use manipulatives and concrete examples whenever possible. After introducing a concept I work out examples with the student, then have him/her work through several examples while I watch and, finally, have the student work independently on a set of problems. If there are still errors I try to approach the concept from a different perspective and then repeat the process.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have over 200 hours of classroom observation and teaching time. I have been an afterschool supervisor/leader at an inner city elementary school. I have also subsitute taught in a public school classroom. I was also the president of the TRIPLE E elementary education club at my college. I was also a leader at AWANA (a children's program). In addition to the classroom experience I have, I have also written numerous Units and/or lesson plans to teach in classrooms.
I am a kinesthetic learner, so I enjoy teaching in a very approachable, hands on kind of way. I realize every student is not that kind of learner, however, yet I try to make learning the subject at hand enjoyable and something that will be remembered not just for a test, but for life, in the student.
