My comments on tutoring Logic : Not sure what class this is, but I am a good logical thinker

Very patient. Usually I will explain the concept, present a practice problem, and double check to make sure he or she understands how to do it. But if possible, I will teach differently in the most effective way.
I have just finished junior year of high school and will be a senior this fall. Throughout my life I have always been especially good at math. I never fail to get an A in math every year. In 10th grade I decided to skip Pre-Calculus from Algebra 2 to AP Calculus BC when I enter 11th grade. Interestingly, I still found AP Calculus BC to be relatively easy. I am the vice president of a tutor club at La Costa Canyon High School. I teach students after school all subjects. I also tutored students outside of school. During my junior year I tutored a girl in Pre-Algebra who did not understand how graphs work. I also tutored a high-schooler in Pre-Calculus two weeks ag ... read more

My comments on tutoring Logic : Bachelor's degree in Mathematics. Logic was one of my easier subjects.

I believe the best way to learn is hands on experience. If I don't find one way to help the student understand I will do my best to try another approach. I have 3 kids under 10, so I am patient with small children, but I expect them to be focused.
Worked about the last 20 years in the actuarial field (short stint away to get my degree), which involves data analysis in excel and access and some programming. I received my bachelor's degree in Mathematics with a minor in statistics in December of 1998. While in school I graded lower division math papers for my teachers, I taught a basic programming language as well as ran a classroom for a virtual teacher (video taped class)

My comments on tutoring Logic : As part of my degree in linguistics I studied logic & symbolic logic as well as semantics.

I take a systematic "nuts and bolts" approach that gives the student the basic building blocks so that they may become a partner in the integrative learning process that involves figuring out how to properly structure, connect & apply these integrations to form new building blocks, and so on to wider & wider integrations & applications.
Graduated with honors in 2010 from SDSU with a BA in Linguistics and an TESL certificate. I double-minored in History and Geography. Worked at American Language Institute (ALI) before and after graduation as a facilitator (assistant instructor). Graduated from Mesa Community College in 2007 with an associates degree in Social Science.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have experience teaching and tutoring at various levels and locations, including several countries. Am flexible as to learning materials and methods depending on your time, availability, budget and resources. My main concern is how YOU can learn and retain better. Each student must understand (before integrating) their own strengths and weaknesses into their study skills and become a systematic achiever. I will assist and teach you how to empower yourself in the chosen topics. You will gain confidence in what you know (where you can excel), who you are (what drives you), what you really want (what profession/path/trade inspires you), and how to get where you want to be by creating and implementing a step to step plan to your goal(s)/success.

Break into the fierce of math ...

I am an Electrical Engineer with a tutoring experience on math in all levels from 6th to senior level. I have had the pleasure of growing in n educated family with mymom being a teacher and my dad was an engineer. From the begining of my schooli days, I had the way of challenging myself in different fields of math and physics. I believe each student is different and as such, each should be handled differently. My more than six years of tutoring experience provided me extensive background on students characters and approaches in better presenting the subject matter. At the end of the day, it is important that the student has learned and is ready in tackling subject topics.
Since I graduated with a BS in Environmental Science, I had been a high-school tutor for more than 6 years helping students in the subjects of Math and Science, specifically, Algebra, Geometry, Physics, and Biology. I handled, on the average, 8 students daily - some in groups while others individually. I have learned to understand each student's needs and characters and the approaches in dealing with them. I now have a Masters Degree in Accountancy and believe in the importance of education in one's life. I would like to continue helpi ... read more

As a graduate of the University of Colorado at Boulder in Integrative Physiology, I love learning and I love helping others learn! A Little Bit About Me...

Often times, a person who is failing a subject might feel like a lost cause, that no one can help them. However, my belief is that all students are worth helping, that each individual has a right to succeed. Further, frustration can be a huge obstacle in the learning process. My approach is to slow down the process and identify the problem areas. Only then do we pick up speed in practicing homework/practice problems. In addition, I believe in a positive atmosphere for learning where patience, understanding, and positive criticism are all vital to success
As both a native of Chula Vista and a UCSD graduate, I have seen and experienced what it takes in order to grow up from a local teenager to a qualified adult ready to take on the world. I have attained a BA in Music, which actually required an additional understanding of math, physics, and computer science, as well. My tutoring exp ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I retired last year (2008) after 30 years as a Public Servant (law enforcement) with the City of San Diego. I have also retired from the Naval Reserve as a Master-At-Arms Chief in 2006. I have taught, counseled and mentored individuals throughout my career. I initially studied Physics and Math at college level and changed major after employment with the city. I attained my BS degree in Criminal Justice. My future plan is to transition to a teaching profession and teach a subject I love most, and that is Math.
I love teaching young minds and inspire them to learn Math. My goal is to show the value of doing math problems. Practice, Practice, Practice, the more math problems done, the more he/she will comprehend. I will approach Math problems as an enjoyable challenge that can easily be overcome.

More About This Tutor...

My 5 years as a United States Marine established important core values such as tact, integrity, discipline, and commitment. I bring these values with me into the classroom. I believe that the success of a student depends more on their level of commitment than on inherent talent. However, learning must be an enjoyable experience in order for a strong commitment to be made. I am passionate about mathematics and the sciences, and this passion shows in my teaching style. Students recognize this passion, and it makes the learning experience fun. I am patient, open-minded, and innovative; so if a student is struggling with a particular topic, I find an alternative teaching approach which better suits their learning style. The success of my students is gratifying, to both student and teacher alike.

A Little Bit About Me...

I prefer to approach every student very slowly in the beginning to understand exactly where their trouble are. Listening is the most important attribute that a tutor can have followed by patience. It's my job to identify where the student's problem are and address those problems. My experience has tought me that most people just need a new perspective to understand certain materials at hand. Providing applications for someone learning new concepts is key for their development because the student understands how the concepts they're learning applies in the real world. I have been told by many of my former students that this is the reason they learn the concepts so well.

I love Mathematics and I often wear my heart on sleeve; when it comes to Math, I try to infect the student with that bug. I believe that most students have issues with their immediate teaching and, as a result, feel that math has no meaning to them, hence I teach Mathematics in a contextual manner, showing deep meaning for the drills imposed in the classroom curriculums most experience daily. I stress heuristic analysis techniques that have shown great results
I have tutored HS 9-12 and undrgraduate students individually in Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics and for SAT/ACT testing since the late 1990's. I have been teaching employees in technical fields for over 20 years. I thought about becoming a teacher, but hate unions. English was my best subject and in Chapman College, I was the only student to ever ace the grammar test. I have written tech manuals, my communication skills are excellant. I trained Mexicans to use complex computer programs (in Spanish) in my last job. I am also very good at math, I was a E.E. degree student at first.
I have the ability to get down to whatever level my students are at, and get them to blossom. This talent is not just in a class subject, but in all aspects of life. I particularly like bringing knowledge to those that have been left behind, and thought they never had a chance. The spark in their eyes when they finally get it is a wonderful feeling. Most of my teaching has been in technical fields, but I have also taught economics, government and ... read more
