My comments on tutoring Logic : Bachelor's degree in Mathematics. Logic was one of my easier subjects.

Worked about the last 20 years in the actuarial field (short stint away to get my degree), which involves data analysis in excel and access and some programming. I received my bachelor's degree in Mathematics with a minor in statistics in December of 1998. While in school I graded lower division math papers for my teachers, I taught a basic programming language as well as ran a classroom for a virtual teacher (video taped class)
I believe the best way to learn is hands on experience. If I don't find one way to help the student understand I will do my best to try another approach. I have 3 kids under 10, so I am patient with small children, but I expect them to be focused.

Break into the fierce of math ...

I am an Electrical Engineer with a tutoring experience on math in all levels from 6th to senior level. I have had the pleasure of growing in n educated family with mymom being a teacher and my dad was an engineer. From the begining of my schooli days, I had the way of challenging myself in different fields of math and physics. Exploring and learning higher levels of topics in these two fields made me achieve very high levels of education among amongst same age people.
Break into the fierce of math and make it a pleasent hobby.

When I was in high school I tutored other students in science and math. In college I majored in psychology (BA University of Missouri), and then statistics (MA University of Missouri, PhD Carnegie Mellon University). I taught and tutored all levels of undergraduate statistics, with emphasis on behavioral science majors. In my classes and tutoring I met students (and classmates) from diverse parts of the world.
Learning requires practice, so I emphasize practice to mastery, following Kumon. In tutoring, it is usually the case that the students can learn most of the subject without a tutor, but that each student who has difficulty has a difficulty not shared by most other students, hence not covered in class or homework. For tutoring, I learn what the students can already do well, what they can do with difficulty, and what they can't do yet, and I learn what is limiting their ne ... read more

Since I graduated with a BS in Environmental Science, I had been a high-school tutor for more than 6 years helping students in the subjects of Math and Science, specifically, Algebra, Geometry, Physics, and Biology. I handled, on the average, 8 students daily - some in groups while others individually. I have learned to understand each student's needs and characters and the approaches in dealing with them. I now have a Masters Degree in Accountancy and believe in the importance of education in one's life. I would like to continue helping students not just to strive but to excel.
I believe each student is different and as such, each should be handled differently. My more than six years of tutoring experience provided me extensive background on students characters and approaches in better presenting the subject matter. At the end of the day, it is important that the student has lear ... read more

I finished my lower division coursework at a california community college (AHC) and earned a total of six associate degrees. While at the community college, I administered practice test for students in MESA in mathematics (Calculus 1,2,3, and 4) while also working the maximum of 20 hours a week in the campus math lab (walk-in tutoring). Furthermore, I attended and graduated from UCLA with a bachelor's degree in physics and a minor in mathematics and finished the necessary coursework to apply to all medical school programs in to the country. I tutored for side money while attending UCLA. Currently, I'm a graduate student at SDSU. I'm two courses and a Master's thesis away from receiving my Master's degree in Physics.

I love teaching young minds and inspire them to learn Math. My goal is to show the value of doing math problems. Practice, Practice, Practice, the more math problems done, the more he/she will comprehend. I will approach Math problems as an enjoyable challenge that can easily be overcome.
I retired last year (2008) after 30 years as a Public Servant (law enforcement) with the City of San Diego. I have also retired from the Naval Reserve as a Master-At-Arms Chief in 2006. I have taught, counseled and mentored individuals throughout my career. I initially studied Physics and Math at college level and changed major after employment with the city. My 5 years as a United States Marine established important core values such as tact, integrity, discipline, and commitment. I bring these values with me into the classroom. I believe that the success of a student depends more on their level of commitment than on inherent talent. However, learning must be an enjoyable experience in order for a strong commitment to be made. I am passionate about mathematics and the sciences, and this passion shows in my teaching style. Students recognize this passion, and it makes the learning experience fun. I am patient, open-minded, and innovative; so if a student is struggling with a particular topic, I find an alternative teaching approach which better suits their learning style. The success of my students is gratifying, to both student and teacher alike.

I love Mathematics and I often wear my heart on sleeve; when it comes to Math, I try to infect the student with that bug. I believe that most students have issues with their immediate teaching and, as a result, feel that math has no meaning to them, hence I teach Mathematics in a contextual manner, showing deep meaning for the drills imposed in the classroom curriculums most experience daily. I stress heuristic analysis techniques that have shown great results

At UCR, I was a "drop-in" tutor. This means that for hours of the day in a room with 6 chalkboards, I would teach math to any UCR student who wanted to learn and answer their questions. There was hardly any down time at all; I was constantly working. I had a team of tutors that I first worked with, then managed as a mentor in my last year. As a Mentor, I kept the team's understanding of the curriculum solid as a group effort. The mentors and the tutoring program coordinator held weekly meetings with regards to our various tutoring teams. I have good experience managing a team, and being part of a team of teams in a board room. Even as a Mentor, most of my time was spent in the Drop-In room tutoring people.

Often times, a person who is failing a subject might feel like a lost cause, that no one can help them. However, my belief is that all students are worth helping, that each individual has a right to succeed. Further, frustration can be a huge obstacle in the learning process. My approach is to slow down the process and identify the problem areas. Only then do we pick up speed in practicing homework/practice problems. In addition, I believe in a positive atmosphere for learning where patience, understanding, and positive criticism are all vital to success

A Little Bit About Me...

My charter, based on ESLERs (Expected School-wide Learning Results), is as follows: • Demonstrate understanding of math in real world applications and mastery of math content standards in their high school coursework. • Use problem-solving strategies and organization to solve real world problems. Besides equipping students with the ability to effectively solve problems and apply the various mathematical principles and methodologies that are needed to successfully complete high school and college, my aim is to enable students to think mathematically (i.e., logically). This capability will empower students to resolve problems encountered in the real world as well as to make well-thought-out decisions throughout life.
