My comments on tutoring Sign Language : I've always had a A in the class I can teach glossing, structure, and basic conversation. I can lay down the foundation.

I have all my students pick which area they are having the most trouble with. If they are unsure I create a evaluation test to asset their weak spots which will be our main focus. Then we review homework I go through each problem and teach them various ways of solving and give the importance of learning that specific skill. I also provide numerous practice problems ranging from easy to very difficult.
I am experienced in tutoring all math areas from elementary to high school level and some college level math. My specialty is elementary math and Algebra. I am involved in various clubs and have a GPA of 3.6. I plan on Majoring in finance once in college. I currently tutor some students at my school.

Sign Language is one of my top subjects! I have been signing since 1994. Enrolled in college to receive an AA in American Sign Language, and will be continuing my education towards a Sign Language Interpreter Certification.

I started signing in 1994 when I met a deaf woman and her friend at my job. A few days later she came back and handed me a "Sign Language for Beginners" book. After many years of Deaf Clubs, Deaf Functions, and friends. Since 2003 I have been helping any deaf/hearing impaired people when they need help with communicating with what they call "Hearing" people. The deaf culture is very different and very interesting. I am now enrolled in college to get my degree in American Sign Language, then to get certified as a Sign Language Interpreter.
I try to keep away from the Sign Language books, It's hard to learn from a cartoon drawing or a picture with arrows showing the direction to move your hands. Sign Language can be a fun language to learn, you never know, the next person you bump into may be deaf. And wouldn't it be nice to be able to communicate with them?

Sign Language is one of my top subjects! I have been learning American Sign Language for five years. I am currently a senior American Sign Language/ English Interpreting major with a Deaf Studies minor at Valdosta State University.

Since sign language is a visual language it is important that students learn by doing and not just watching.

My teaching style is visual. I think that children learn when things are hands on and they can see an actual model. I am not into lecture because with younger children which I usually work with are more touchy.
I have always wanted to work with children since I was in High School. It started when I was in the 11th grade and I would go to a daycare and tutor after school age children. In 2006 I enrolled in AmeriCorps and did afterschool tutoring at the PAL center. I am currently go to an elementary school to volunterr with ESOL children. I did 45hrs at Westside Elementary School and I will continue each semester.

My goal as a teacher is to meet the individual needs of students, teaching them “how” to learn, and guiding them towards their full potential as learners and citizens. I strive to use strengths to turn weaknesses into success. I enjoy using many instructional methods, finding “the one” that can make a concept come to life. I feel it is imperative to “reach before teach” when it comes to identifying and meeting needs. Developing a bond of trust and commitment leads to a less stressful environment, opening the door to creative learning with little fear of failure. I use a lot of humor in my teaching; I like puns and really bad jokes and I’ve been known to dress in costume or speak in an accent all day.
I spent much time in college working with local teachers and tutoring their students. Upon graduation, I spent a year teaching 4th grade in a private school. In Florida, I continu ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style addresses each student as an individual with unique abilities and strengths. I believe that it is important to create a positive learning environment for the child and instill a "can-do" attitude. I approach the teaching of a difficult concept by evaluating the child's current level of knowledge and using task analysis to scaffold increasingly progressive steps to achieve comprehension. My greatest reward in teaching is the recognition that lights up a child's eyes when he or she realizes that he or she can learn.
I have a wide range of teaching experience with K-12 students who have difficulty learning in a mainstream classroom. My academic background consists of a M.A.T. in Elementary Education, a B.A. in Audiology, and seven credit hours in graduate coursework. I have a valid Florida teaching license. I love teaching, and working with students. Everyone can learn, and the educator is ultimately responsible to providing multiple styles of learning for students to discover and connect to learning. Tutorial enrichment through remediation is most important for students to grasp and exhibit mastery over certain strands and goals. However, students learn by movement, doing, hearing, seeing, and repeating. It is also essential to "know thy students" and provide a holistic approach so that students can be given many approaches to the learning experience.
I have been teaching in the classroom for about 16 years. Areas of teaching experience has been Language Arts, History, Geography, and now Personal Character Development to High School Seniors about to graduate. I have also tutored in every subject listed above. I simply love to teach, and am very good at it. It, I believe, is a ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I truly believe that students can learn given the proper conditions. Some students learn slower than others so it is important to provide them with the strategies to ensure better chances of success. I try to implement student success strategies throughout any course I teach. For example, showing students how to be organized is a key factor for success. In addition I try to instill confidence in students, which can increase their chances for success. While doing all those things, I believe in the constructivist approach to learning by drawing connections to previous learned information. These are some of the methods I use to ensure success.
I have worked in the field of education all my life. Currently I am pursuing a doctoral degree in Curriculum and Instruction, while teaching courses at a private college. I have tutored college level students in reading and writing skills, but ... read more
