Sign Language is one of my top subjects! I went to school for Deaf Education. I love Sign Language and enjoy teaching others!

When I was small I fell in love with American Sign Language, scene then I have been studying and going to school to learn more about this amazing language and culture. I attended the University of North Florida in Jacksonville and majored in Deaf Education, so that one day I could be a teach for the hearing impaired. I currently work in Osceola County as a Substitute Teacher part-time for all grades. This means I have experience in what is being taught in the school systems. I also work part-time for the Disney company as a Conservation Education Presenter. With this job I have experience with animals, science, also presenting, and educating many people of all ages.
There are many teaching styles and I fell that everyone learns differently. I like to find out how someone learns so that I can alter and adjust my teaching style so that everyone can learn quickly and retain an i ... read more

Sign Language is one of my top subjects! I have been signing since 1994. Enrolled in college to receive an AA in American Sign Language, and will be continuing my education towards a Sign Language Interpreter Certification.

I started signing in 1994 when I met a deaf woman and her friend at my job. A few days later she came back and handed me a "Sign Language for Beginners" book. After many years of Deaf Clubs, Deaf Functions, and friends. Since 2003 I have been helping any deaf/hearing impaired people when they need help with communicating with what they call "Hearing" people. The deaf culture is very different and very interesting. I am now enrolled in college to get my degree in American Sign Language, then to get certified as a Sign Language Interpreter.
I try to keep away from the Sign Language books, It's hard to learn from a cartoon drawing or a picture with arrows showing the direction to move your hands. Sign Language can be a fun language to learn, you never know, the next person you bump into may be deaf. And wouldn't it be nice to be able to communicate with them?

Sign Language is one of my top subjects! Both of my parents are deaf, I have been using ASL since the age of 1. I am now 20 years old and completely fluent in the language.

I have been the designated interpreter for my mother and father who are both deaf for well over a decade. Throughout my years I have helped interpret for those in need at various events such as school, church, doctors appointments, and social events. To further my knowledge of the language I have taken ASL courses 1-3 at the University Of Central Florida.
I prefer face to face teaching sessions but I can be flexible. To start of I like to see what the student may already know about the language. From there we will practice new material and once the student feels comfortable with the newly learned signs I will then have them attempt at having a conversation using the signs. This is so they can practice using the signs as well as receiving and comprehending the signs.

My comments on tutoring Sign Language : I've always had a A in the class I can teach glossing, structure, and basic conversation. I can lay down the foundation.

I have all my students pick which area they are having the most trouble with. If they are unsure I create a evaluation test to asset their weak spots which will be our main focus. Then we review homework I go through each problem and teach them various ways of solving and give the importance of learning that specific skill. I also provide numerous practice problems ranging from easy to very difficult.
I am experienced in tutoring all math areas from elementary to high school level and some college level math. My specialty is elementary math and Algebra. I am involved in various clubs and have a GPA of 3.6. I plan on Majoring in finance once in college. I currently tutor some students at my school.

Sign Language is one of my top subjects! I have four years experience in American Sign Language interpretation and I'm very knowledgeable about ASL vocabulary, grammar, slang, idioms, and how to teach them in an understandable way. I fellowship with the Deaf every week so I know the current signs used in daily conversation.

Adjustable depending on the client/student's needs. Can be simplistic yet extremely effective in ensuring language acquisition.
I've been studying American Sign Language (ASL) for over five years. I've taught ASL multiple times at community and church classes with great language success. I have snout four years of ASL interpretation experience ranging from church services to classroom settings to events to guided tours and more. My comments on tutoring Sign Language : I am Deaf and American Sign Language (ASL) is my primary language while spoken/written English is my secondary language. I am able to teach you the sign and interact with you to be able to learn ASL in faster pace than just learning from the book. ASL is a beautiful language, no doubt about that.

I provide hands on teaching than giving a lecture. I feel that people will benefit more when it is hands on.
I'm a freelance web and graphic designer and currently contract with a few companies such as Attractionseeker, ASLpolis, and a few other agency. I have been freelancing for 5 years and currently seeking full time employment at creative agency in Cincinnati, OH. Aside from freelancing, I am currently a president of North Central Deaf Club and provide rich experience of using ASL and aim to provide positive experience for everyone who is Deaf, hard of hearing, or hearing regardless of their experience with ASL.

My goal as a teacher is to meet the individual needs of students, teaching them “how” to learn, and guiding them towards their full potential as learners and citizens. I strive to use strengths to turn weaknesses into success. I enjoy using many instructional methods, finding “the one” that can make a concept come to life. I feel it is imperative to “reach before teach” when it comes to identifying and meeting needs. Developing a bond of trust and commitment leads to a less stressful environment, opening the door to creative learning with little fear of failure. I use a lot of humor in my teaching; I like puns and really bad jokes and I’ve been known to dress in costume or speak in an accent all day.
I spent much time in college working with local teachers and tutoring their students. Upon graduation, I spent a year teaching 4th grade in a private school. In Florida, I continu ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I have always wanted to work with children since I was in High School. It started when I was in the 11th grade and I would go to a daycare and tutor after school age children. In 2006 I enrolled in AmeriCorps and did afterschool tutoring at the PAL center. I am currently go to an elementary school to volunterr with ESOL children. I did 45hrs at Westside Elementary School and I will continue each semester.
My teaching style is visual. I think that children learn when things are hands on and they can see an actual model. I am not into lecture because with younger children which I usually work with are more touchy.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style addresses each student as an individual with unique abilities and strengths. I believe that it is important to create a positive learning environment for the child and instill a "can-do" attitude. I approach the teaching of a difficult concept by evaluating the child's current level of knowledge and using task analysis to scaffold increasingly progressive steps to achieve comprehension. My greatest reward in teaching is the recognition that lights up a child's eyes when he or she realizes that he or she can learn.
I have a wide range of teaching experience with K-12 students who have difficulty learning in a mainstream classroom. My academic background consists of a M.A.T. in Elementary Education, a B.A. in Audiology, and seven credit hours in graduate coursework. I have a valid Florida teaching license. My work history includes being a EDEP group leader and ... read more
