I unexpectedly began teaching a math class in 1997; the combination of enjoying teaching and being so successful at it eventually led me to go back to school to become a full time math teacher. As a student I became a tutor at a community college and a university as well as tutoring elementary, junior high and high school students at a local after-school tutoring center. I enjoy helping students of any age learn math and become confident with it.
I believe every student can be successful at math. It begins by being patient and friendly, finding out what the student knows and then finding exactly where he/she is having a problem and starting with that concept and breaking it down until it makes sense. A Little Bit About Me...

My bachelor degree is in Mechanical Engineering. The curriculum of engineering requires a minor on Mathematics which includes, Calculus, Numerical Analysis and Differential Equations among others. Also mathematics are used constantly on work so is something that you do not forget. During the past six years I tutored my son. He is now 13(so I have experience with teenagers) and in the last year he scored above average on the California standard tests. My son was a math olimpic on Puerto Rico for 2 years and was the youngest kid on Puerto Rico's Math Counts on 2006.

I am a firm believer that every person can learn the complex subjects of mathematics and physics with the proper instruction. Since these subjects are abstract, they can be complicated. The "trick" is to figure out what the student responds to the best and use this teaching method to present the material (i.e. graphical vs. algebraic).
I have earned a Ph. D. in computational astrophysics and a minor in mathematics giving me the necessary skills to teach and tutor both mathematics and physics. Furthermore I have taught both physics and astronomy as a graduate student as well as a professor at both a small university (California Lutheran University) and a community college (Moorpark Community College). Lastly I've been a tutor for college students for about 2 years and to my wife for an additional 2 years.
