I love to learn, which is why I love teaching children. Every child learns differently, because of this, teaching is a learning process as well! I believe that students learn best through hands on activities that allow them to internalize the concepts they are struggling with. Whether it is using math manipulatives to understand multiplication and division or using letter tiles to understand consonant blends in reading, hands on activities are the best way to learn.
As an education major at Berea College, I volunteered my services as a tutor three nights a week in addition to my student teaching and education courses. I was also a Pre-Kindergarten teacher during the summer terms while I was in college. I am certified to teach all subjects grades K-5. I have my masters degree in Reading and Literacy Instruction. I currently teach Pre-Kindegarten in Lexington.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have always been driven to achieve a high level of excellence in everything I do. As a college student, I tutored many of my friends and peers for free. I have tutored several children since graduating college for free as well, and have always enjoyed helping others learn and understand new things.
I love children of all ages. I am very patient and laid back. I am kind, and considerate of others. My goal would be to help the child learn and understand, while making the experience a fun and rewarding one. I believe everyone has the ability to do whatever they strive for. My teaching style involves what the student wants to achieve out of my teachings. For example i ask the students during their first lesson, "What musical groups and styles inspire you?" This way I can get a feel for what they are looking for. I also do from beginner to advanced theory techniques with notation, playing with a metronome, flash cards, etc. Teaching is a HUGE part of my life and i couldn't be easier to get along with. Love working with all ages, especially the little ones considering i love to be a role model to them.
