A Little Bit About Me...

I love teaching and strive every day to become a better teacher, as my career goal is to teach at the university level. I find teaching exciting and difficult. In my discussion sections, I adopt an attitude not of authority over students but of collaboration with students; I try to create and facilitate an environment of collective engagement with a given text or topic. Although I have earned my degree, BS in Psychology, my previous education includes 2 years at St. John's College in Santa Fe, New Mexico and 2 years of Engineering at Oregon State University. The years at St. John's have given me the unusual ability to tutor students in Ancient Greek. I enjoy teaching. Working with a student one-to-one or even in small groups allows a student to have their individual needs met. Tutoring has the advantage of catching the student where they are struggling to comprehend. I am patient, creative, and prefer to model examples for my students. I believe that a strong foundation in the basics will help a student grasp more difficult concepts. My favorite venue is the use of a dry erase board and having the student model back an example to evaluate if they understood the concepts or the steps to the solution.
