I love teaching and strive every day to become a better teacher, as my career goal is to teach at the university level. I find teaching exciting and difficult. In my discussion sections, I adopt an attitude not of authority over students but of collaboration with students; I try to create and facilitate an environment of collective engagement with a given text or topic. My teaching style is probably best suited to high school and college students. Although I successfully helped my own 3 children through their elementary school, high school and college years, my tutoring experience has been with older students. My wife is a Montessori trained teacher so I have absorbed that method for tutoring. Each student must be viewed as an individual to define the areas of weakness and fill them in. I enjoy teaching. Working with a student one-to-one or even in small groups allows a student to have their individual needs met. Tutoring has the advantage of catching the student where they are struggling to comprehend. I am patient, creative, and prefer to model examples for my students. I believe that a strong foundation in the basics will help a student grasp more difficult concepts.
