I have worked in the graphic design/advertising field for 10 years and have been drawing all my life. I run the gamut from Photoshop and Illustrator to pencil, charcoal and watercolor. I think it's important to know how to build a file well so that it is enabled for printing, while not compromising creativity. With drawing it is important to draw what you see before you can invent. Anatomy is important.
I like to draw students out with questions and get them thinking for themselves. In order to handle situations in the real world one needs appropriate problem solving skills. When I show something to a student I want them to repeat what I've just done and then explain why this works - but I want them to also try and find another way that will work. (If there is one)

A Little Bit About Me...

Because of my experience in teaching my own children, I have discovered that no child is too young to learn. Often people will not consider an infant or toddler a "functioning human being" until the child can speak. This is so inaccurate! I taught one of my daughters to read at age four. My teaching style is to engage the student on a personal level through cheerful conversation and sharing of interests, then to assess learning styles, strengths, and challenges. Children perform well when expectations are complimentary to them, and when they are given the tools and nurture to accomplish their dreams.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love the art of teaching. I work with the student on an individual level, tailoring my methods to achieve maximum learning comprehension. Usually, I prefer to have the student figure things out for themselves using guided questions and logic. I feel that one of the most effective methods is, rather than lecture the student and provide the answer, I instead provide the basic materials of the problem and encourage them to figure things out progressively. I believe that anyone can learn if taught in the way that sits best with their learning style and thought processes.
